Remake rumors are popping out left and right. And just recently, Square Enix has posted a cryptic message, which has led many to believe that it is a teaser for Final Fantasy 9 Remake. Let’s see what that is all about.
Back in 2000, Square (which later turned into Square Enix) released the ninth iteration of Final Fantasy. It was the last FF game playable on PlayStation 1 and was universally praised by players and critics alike. Moreover, it was a step back from the futuristic setting of the previous three games, since Final Fantasy 9 is set in a medieval-style world, more like the original Final Fantasy. In any case, 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 9, and Square Enix is celebrating it by adding a bunch of new FF9 merchandise to its webstore. But that is not all.
Square Enix’s Latest Post Looks Like a Final Fantasy 9 Remake Teaser
On April 7, Square Enix posted on X a message that only Final Fantasy 9 fans will get, with an appropriate message: “If you know, you know.”

That is a famous line from the game, and the fans are adamant that this surely means the remake is on the way. Final Fantasy 9 was so popular, and the recent Final Fantasy VII Remake proved a massive success; the hopes are up! “I’ll take a pre-order on the collector’s edition right now, please and thank you,” said AshStoryTeller on X, and “What is with the tease? I can’t take it anymore!” added TylorHepnerArt.
As for when we can hope to see the remake released, Nate the Hate actually had some thoughts on the matter a while back. When asked when to expect the release of FF9 or FF Tactics remakes, he said: “Both remain in active development. FFIXR isn’t expected to see release in 2025. Maybe we’ll see it launch in 2026.”
Hopefully, this cryptic post by Square Enix will lead to some official info on Final Fantasy 9 Remake. The fans would definitely go crazy for it.
