It’s been a rough month for Helldivers. There hasn’t been a patch in more than four weeks, and the players are getting frustrated with the lack of new content. Week after week, the hype for a patch grows, but the players always end up disappointed. The CEO decided to step in and offer some details about the next patch. When that backfired, the devs were put under immense pressure to give the players something concrete. So, they did. The Community Manager, Baskinator, shared an announcement that temporarily appeased the players. However, the Helldivers 2 players were quick to suggest that the CM sneakily leaked a first glance at a new melee weapon – an actual spear.
Helldivers Suspect the CM Leaked Something in the Announcement
By now, you’ve probably seen Baskinator’s announcement. Basically, she said the devs were cooking, and the preview for the next Warbond would be on May 8. She finished the announcement with a lovely picture of the Super Earth flag. Pretty standard, right?
Standard enough that not many players took a second glance at the picture. However, Baskinator posted the picture again in a reply to a player who asked how to pass the time until the update. The CM responded: “Look at this image and think about it and marvel at its beauty”. This time, the players were intrigued.
Now, we love Super Earth as much as the next Helldiver, and we always salute the flag. But… we haven’t seen a flagpole such as the one in the picture in Helldivers 2, well, at least not yet. Of course, we weren’t the only ones who found that suspicious.
Players Are Extremely Excited for the “Leaked” Spear
Naturally, the Helldivers 2 community took the very slim possibility that the CM leaked something and ran with it, and the players decided the image showed off a spear. No, not the FAF-14 Spear, but an actual melee weapon.
One player noted: “Hell, tell me that the image is a REAL teaser of the SuperEarth flag as a support stratagem and I’m yours”. Lone_Wolfen added: “Make it a backpack item that gives reload/move speed, stamina/health regen to allies while equipped, but enemies are more inclined to target you for carrying such an auspicious symbol of Managed Democracy”.
There are hundreds of suggestions such as these all over the Helldivers 2 social media. What do you think? Is this actually a leaked melee weapon, or is it, after all, just a pretty image of a flag? Hopefully, it’s the former. The devs could have been inspired by the jousting craze back in December.
