The latest major update has pushed the story forward and finally introduced us to Dia, Gley’s daughter. However, things may not be as they first seem, and The First Descendant players theorize about Dia in the new storyline.
Season 2 Episode 2: Into the Void added a new area and expanded the storyline. Now it is all about Gley trying to find her daughter, and everything points towards her being in the Sigma Sector. We all saw the trailer showing Dia so it is no secret that she’s present. Going into the Sigma Sector a couple of times sets some events in motion and the players started theorizing on what exactly is the truth. Once more, we’re going into spoiler territory, so if you haven’t dipped your toes into Sigma Sector and the new storyline, finish that up first and then come back to this article.
[SPOILERS] The First Descendant Players Theorize On Dia and the New Storyline
In Sigma Sector, you encounter Dia, Gley’s daughter. After a couple of missions, you end up “purifying” her for the Vulgus corruption and taking her back to Albion, where she rests in a pod/tank until she recovers. This is all sweet and nice, but some players have a darker theory.
We find out that the Vulgus have been corrupting and cloning Descendants so some players speculate that the Dia we have is simply a clone. “We know they made a bunch of copies of her because in the mission in Sigma sector we fight “Pattern Elias”, and she insists she’s the “original”, we know that means she is worried that she’s not and is a clone. Also this game has some pretty dark storylines. and Gley’s story is too sunny if it’s truly Dia.” said Last_Hearth, adding that the original Dia may truly be gone and that a purified clone of her is not that bad, even a little bittersweet.
Preston_Garvy-MM adds: “And the first Dia we fight was labelled ‘Karel’s first descendant’. Could be a clone too. Considering we have like a million Greg clones and one of the bosses even say something about ‘you (whichever vulgus that kills the player descendant in the dungeon) get to be my clone’.”
Maybe Too Dark?
Others go more along the lines of the Dia we saved being the original, while “fake” Dias that you encounter in Sigma Sector missions are clones. “I’m just gonna assume they’re gonna be pretty literal on this one. The one they captured didn’t say it was a clone nor have second thoughts if it was the original but the ones in gameplay do.“ said Shoelebubba and “The tank one is the real deal and what we fight from drop pods “Pattern Elias” are the clones, as when we first fought her she was “DIA, First Descendant of Karel” so we snatched the original and put her in the tank. “ added WARHAMMERXOXO. And players are adamant Dia will be a playable Descendant in the future, so it would be pretty strange for her to be a clone.
While the original theory is a bit dark, it would add a dash of grittiness to the game. As mentioned before, we have a lot of tragic moments in TFD so what’s another one? Can’t wait to see where the story goes.
