For an anime and manga series to have a tragic ending, one of the most important ingredients is to have a major character death that would leave fans bawling for a week, breaking the internet in the process. Given Boruto’s looming death flags, it seems like fans should prepare as early as now for an unexpected ending that would make them cry for weeks.
From the very beginning of Boruto, the prologue seemingly suggests that something unfortunate has happened to the legendary Naruto Uzumaki. It’s still unclear whether he will die in the future, but many fans are worried he will be the sacrificial pawn, alongside his rival Sasuke Uchiha, to save the world. After all, in most shounen series, it’s common for impactful characters like Naruto and Sasuke to sacrifice their lives for the greater good.

The fate of the world would rest on Boruto, not on Naruto and Sasuke’s hands anymore. But what about the rest of the Leaf ninja and even those who come from other hidden villages? It’s possible that an entirely new villain, likely an Otsutsuki God or maybe Kawaki himself, will push everyone into a corner until only one of them is left.

As the plot unfolds, it seems like Boruto will continue losing these precious things as long as Momoshiki resides within him while many other powerful enemies with evil intentions emerge.
As a result, fans are expecting Boruto to lose his life, establishing a tragic ending for his own series. He may die fighting against a god-level Otsutsuki in the future or even from fighting against Kawaki in their final showdown, sacrificing his life in the process. The Boruto manga killed him once, so there’s always the possibility he might be killed off in the end as well.
