Is the Creek Defense a Red Herring? Some Helldivers 2 Players Claim the MO Is Just a Distraction From a New Squid Invasion

It’s time for another conspiracy theory that might come true! As you most likely know, the Automatons are headed to Malevelon Creek. The current Major Order prioritizes stopping them over anything else that could be happening. However, there is a more crucial storyline unfolding, the wormhole has already destroyed two planets, Angel’s Venture and Moradesh. So, why is the Creek more important than stopping the Meridian Singularity? According to some Helldivers 2 players, it isn’t, the Creek might be just a distraction so that another Illuminate invasion could happen, this time with the full roster.

What’s Going On With the Illuminate?

The Illuminate arrived on December 13, in the middle of the night. They launched an attack and even interrupted the Major Order that was in progress at the time. It is said that Calypso was the deadliest battle in Helldivers 2 so far.

However, mere days following this attack, the players knew pretty much everything about fighting the Squid vanguard. Naturally, players assumed the rest of the Illuminate would soon join the war and stir things up.

It didn’t help that there were numerous leaks of various units ( the Obelisks, the Summoners, and the Illusionists) circling social media. Now, all of these new units were actually data-mined, so the players expected them to arrive quite quickly. However, the devs haven’t added any new Squids since their arrival almost four months ago.

Obviously, this is one of the main reasons why the players avoid the Illuminate MOs, and why the Meridian Singularity has already claimed two planets. Players want to see some big changes on the Illuminate front.

So, when they managed to complete the previous Major Order and drastically slow down the wormhole, some players suggested an interesting theory. Since the wormhole lost momentum and wouldn’t be able to reach Super Earth, which was the Squids’ goal, it only made sense that they changed their plans. This only makes sense, right? Sure, but this is also where the conspiracy theories start…

Some Helldivers Insist That the Threat of the Creek Invasion Is Just a Distraction

Well, one can dream, right? We’ve seen numerous players wondering what the devs were planning for April Fools’ Day, and some have quite elaborate ideas, most of which include the arrival of the Illuminate. As you know, the anniversary of the Creek liberation is fast-approaching, so this seems like a perfect distraction for a Squid invasion to start in Helldivers 2.

One player, ClayTGoat, suggested: “Think about it, the anniversary of the Creek is tomorrow. The Bots are currently in a position where they haven’t a snowball’s chance in hell of getting to the Creek. This whole masquerading it as a bot order is a huge rug pull. I would not be surprised if I wake up tomorrow on April 1st to find the Squids attacking the Creek, perhaps the debut of the Illusionist to boot”.

Now, we can’t say, since the MO ends in a bit less than five days, but so far, the players haven’t had much trouble keeping the bots away from the Creek. So, this theory might be… plausible? We’re just as surprised.

Helldivers agree that this would be one hell of a twist. One player, FeatherstonStudios, noted: “The entirety of the true Illuminate roster debuting at the Creek would be absolute 4D chess April Fools right there”.

Truth be told, the first invasion caught us off guard, so the devs doing something like this would be on brand. We’ll all have to wait and see. However, don’t let this idea interfere with fighting the bots! You’ll find us on Dolph, for the time being. For Liberty and Super Earth.
