Sony is giving the PlayStation 5 some bold new tones, including an eye-straining new green colorway that will really help your gigantic console pop much more brightly than it currently does. A trio of new “Hyperpop” hues for the PlayStation are coming in March, in the form of new DualSense controllers and PS5 console covers, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday.
Officially, the Hyperpop Collection for PS5 includes fresh color schemes named Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue. The red might appeal to Ferrari enthusiasts, while the others feel conspicuously timed to the planned March release of Bungie’s Marathon, which is dripping in similar blue and green hues. The DualSense controllers and console covers include a gradient that transitions from glossy black to each bold RGB color, which is exactly what Sony says inspired the new looks.
“We’re cranking the volume all the way up with a collection that doesn’t just stand out, it takes over the room,” said Leo Cardoso, a member of SIE’s Color, Material, and Finish design team. “Inspired by the glow of the RGB lights of your impressive gaming setups, these new colors go LOUD in the best possible way.”
It appears that PlayStation 5 Pro owners will have to stick to their existing colors. Sony has only confirmed console covers for the base version of the PS5.
Sony’s Hyperpop DualSense wireless controllers will be available for $84.99/€84.99/£74.99. The matching PS5 console covers will be available — in limited quantities in select markets, Sony notes — for $74.99/€74.99/£64.99. The collection launches on March 12, and pre-orders will go live on Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. local time at direct.playstation.com and participating retailers.
