A French retailer has listed Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Switch 2, further adding to expectations of a release on Nintendo’s new console.
Back in April, shortly after the game’s initial release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, ratings board PEGI updated its website to include Switch 2 under the game’s list of platforms. Then, in July, Ubisoft itself hinted a Switch 2 version was on the way as CEO Yves Guillemot stated the game has “some new versions…on other machines”.
Now Auchan has a listing for a Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, though there’s no release date just yet.
However, judging by the box art, this will be a Game Key Card, just like Ubisoft’s other Switch 2 game Star Wars Outlaws.
Audio developer on Star Wars Outlaws Rob Bantin previously discussed the use of the key cards, explaining having the full game on the cards as usual “simply didn’t give the performance we needed at the quality target we were going for”, as the game’s engine “relies heavily on disk streaming for its open world environments”.
“Majestic in scope, impressive in detail, Assassin’s Creed Shadows honours the beauty of feudal Japan, even if its strongest moments are saved for the personal stories of its two protagonists,” reads our Assassin’s Creed Shadows review.
Earlier this month, Ubisoft revealed its new subsidiary Vantage Studios, co-owned by Tencent. It will be responsible for Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, including Assassin’s Creed.
