It’s Time To Say Goodbye To Solo Leveling’s Protagonist Forever

It’s Time To Say Goodbye To Solo Leveling’s Protagonist Forever

This article contains spoilers from Solo Leveling Ragnarok.

Solo Leveling fans are eagerly waiting for the third season of the anime, especially after the incredible reception that season 2 got earlier this year. Fans know very well that Solo Leveling is only going to get bigger from here onwards, which is why it’s shocking to see a continuation of the series not even having been announced yet.

While Solo Leveling Season 3 might still take longer, fans have other exciting news to turn their attention toward. Recently, one of Chugong’s biggest interviews was officially published and fans got a look at some of the most exciting plans for Solo Leveling. Chugong officially confirmed that there might be a new Solo Leveling sequel in the future, and while that is great, he also delivered bad news for fans of Solo Leveling Ragnarok. According to Chugong, Ragnarok exists in a completely different universe and exists as fan service only. In other words, any continuation of Solo Leveling won’t see events from Solo Leveling Ragnarok being touched upon at all, which also means Sung Suho, the protagonist of Solo Leveling Ragnarok, won’t be a relevant character anymore.

Solo Leveling Ragnarok Is Officially Set In A Different Universe

Suho Is Canon, But Doesn’t Exist In The Chugong Universe

  • Chugong might continue Solo Leveling
  • Suho will not exist in the new version

When Solo Leveling ended, most fans turned their attention to the sequel series, Solo Leveling Ragnarok. Fans were well aware of the fact that it wasn’t Chugong who wrote this series, but everyone still considered it to be canon. To be clear, even the author considers Ragnarok to be canon.

I use the system, and the system uses me. — Sung Jinwoo

However, it’s now been confirmed that it exists in its own universe and the events have no bearing on the world of Chugong’s Solo Leveling at all. In other words, even the characters, such as Sung Suho, don’t exist in the true universe of Solo Leveling. Here’s what Chugong had to say about Solo Leveling Ragnarok:

Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fan service. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios — similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself.

Sung Suho Was A Brilliant Character

Fans Loved The Character Writing In Solo Leveling Ragnarok

While it is interesting to see Chugong state that he wants to work on a potential Solo Leveling sequel on his own, it is also sad and disappointing to know that this decision would completely erase Sung Suho as a whole new “true canon” will be established. Fans also find it saddening to know that Ragnarok isn’t a direct sequel to Solo Leveling. Most fans consider Ragnarok to be incredibly well written, even more so than the original Solo Leveling, and it’s truly a shame that Suho will officially be cut out of the story now as the series will likely pivot towards Sung Jinwoo again.

“My position doesn’t allow me to officially confirm Season 3 in front of the media. We need everyone’s support for the next season. […] My favorite technique by Son Goku is the Spirit Bomb. Spirit Bomb, the technique that combines everyone’s power to defeat the enemy. So, for the next season of Solo Leveling to come to fruition, we need everyone’s power and support for the series across the world.” — Atshushi Kaneko

Solo Leveling has two seasons out right now, one with 12 episodes, and the other with 13, for a combined episode count of 25 episodes available to watch right now. The series can be streamed on Crunchyroll for fans to enjoy while awaiting any more news concerning the third season. For fans who can’t wait for season 3 to come out, checking out the Manhwa might be a great option.
