This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series.
Jujutsu Kaisen is giving fans one great shock after another. Fans have always known Gege Akutami to write slightly darker stories and it seems that that hasn’t changed in the sequel series at all. Right at the beginning of JJK Modulo, it was revealed to the fans that Gege had officially killed off two of the most important characters in the original series, Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. These two were at the core of the victory against the King of Curses, Sukuna, in Shinjuku Showdown. Their death was certainly a big blow to all the fans of the story.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Kills Off Two Major JJK Characters In The Sequel
JJK just killed off two major characters, and fans are shocked.
Now, it has seemingly been confirmed in the story that another great couple that fans came to love towards the end of JJK is dead. This is the couple of Megumi Fushiguro and Hana Kurusu. JJK Modulo chapter 13, highlighted their deaths quite clearly, and it also had a profound effect on the protagonist of the original series, Yuji Itadori.
Megumi Fushiguro And Hana Kurusu Are Likely Dead
Gege Akutami didn’t really give the fans any big couples towards the end of JJK. However, he most certainly did pair them together and left the rest to the imagination of the fans. For instance, Yuta and Maki were clearly together at the end of the series, and it was only in the sequel that fans found out that they had gotten married and had kids and grandkids.
Kurusu, from now on, I’ll be your right arm. We have a mission, so let’s get going. — Megumi Fushiguro to Hana Kurusu
Similarly, Gege also set up Megumi and Hana together. However, nothing has been mentioned about them since. In the special JJK one-shot, Gege also set up Yuji and Ozawa together, but once again, fans don’t know much about what happened to Ozawa.
Right now, it is quite clear in the story that 68 years after the events of Shinjuku Showdown, most of the main characters are dead already. Both Yuta and Maki have already died. Nobara is still alive, but the others are falling one by one. It is highly likely that Ozawa is also dead by this point.
Yuji Attended The Funeral Of Hana Kurusu
Specifically, Gege seems to be implying that both Megumi and Hana are dead. In JJK Modulo chapter 13, Nobara mentioned that the last time she saw Yuji was during Hana’s funeral. The fact that Nobara called Hana by her first name means that she grew very close to her later down the line.
It also means that her relationship with Megumi likely resulted in them getting married and she took his last name. This is Gege’s way of hiding the fact that she eventually got married to Megumi.
Gege Akutami Reveals Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s Best Written Character
JJK wasn’t known for its incredible writing, but Gege has been beating expectations with Modulo.
We aren’t heroes fighting for justice. We’re Jujutsu Sorcerers. No one can ever truly judge us, so we must continually prove the worth of our existence. And we don’t have the luxury of thinking about ourselves. We’ve just got to save people. I believe that was the original principle of your actions. So start by saving me, Itadori. — Megumi Fushiguro to Yuji Itadori, Culling Game
The biggest indicator here is the fact that Yuji has essentially cut himself off from all his friends. Yuji has been losing them all one by one, and it is too much for him to bear. Towards the end of JJK, Yuji said to Megumi that he would struggle to cope with the loneliness without him. If Megumi were to die, along with the likes of Yuta and Maki, it makes sense why Yuji cut himself off entirely.
Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin Died Not Too Long Ago
Alongside Megumi and Hana, Gege has also killed off many other characters. The biggest shock of all was the death of Maki Zenin. Fans know very well that she has a powerful Heavenly Restriction and a body that is clearly superhuman. If anything, Maki should be one of the last ones to die.
Yet, for some reason, she ended up dying first of all. The shock from her death was so great for Yuta that he couldn’t cope and the loneliness eventually took him as well.
He’s Alive: Jujutsu Kaisen Author Gege Akutami Just Brought Back A Legendary Sorcerer
JJK Modulo just brought back a legendary sorcerer, and fans are hyped for what’s to come.
The last time I saw him was at Hana’s funeral. He said he wouldn’t be going to any more funerals. He may look like a muscle head but he’s too sensitive, you know. He just can’t bear to see anyone else off. — Nobara Kugisaki on Yuji Itadori, JJK Modulo Chapter 13
Now, Nobara is the only character from the old generation that fans know has survived. Meanwhile, Yuji will continue to live because he doesn’t age anymore, as confirmed by Nobara. He is severely depressed due to losing all his friends, and he wants to fulfill his grandpa’s last wish of being able to die surrounded by those he loves.
Yuji Could Die In JJK Modulo
Whether he will be able to fulfill that wish or not remains to be seen. But, given the current events of JJK Modulo, it is highly likely that Yuji will eventually be killed by the new strongest in the story, Dabura. His strength is absolutely immense, and he is the only one who can free Yuji from his curse.
Once that happens, Yuji will most likely go on to meet Mahito in the other world and rest in peace. It is certainly going to be a sad moment in the story, but at the same time, it will bring Yuji’s story full circle and give him a fitting end.
