Even before it launches, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Legacy of the Forge DLC looks every bit like the expansion Brushes With Death hoped it would have been and more. While Brushes With Death did add a decent storyline, horse racing/archery, and shield painting to the mix, Legacy of the Forge is going to be an even larger expansion. The premise of the DLC centers around Martin, Henry’s adoptive father, and rebuilding the forge where he was once an apprentice. Apart from the story, however, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Legacy of the Forge DLC will also finally give Henry a permanent, customizable home, ways to generate passive income, and it will essentially be a slower version of Stardew Valley, allowing players to customize both the forge and its surroundings.
This is a major answer to many prayers from fans, who have been requesting the aforementioned features and more for quite some time. It’s especially refreshing that Legacy of the Forge is following Brushes With Death, after it failed to stick the landing in some respects. There is one aspect of Brushes With Death that was rather entertaining, however, and it’s one that will actually play a unique role in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Legacy of the Forge DLC — just as soon as players begin customizing Henry’s home.
Legacy of the Forge Expands on Brushes With Death’s Best Feature
Henry Can Display His Custom Painted Shields in His Home at the Forge
Brushes With Death’s story may have been a bit of a letdown, especially considering how abruptly it ended, but it did add one feature that allowed players to leave their personal mark on Henry’s equipment: shield painting. As the story progresses in Brushes With Death, players unlock more designs for the DLC’s main character, Voyta, to paint on Henry’s shields. Then, by the time they complete the story, players will have unlocked over 100 different shield painting combinations, making for a thoroughly enjoyable side activity for those wanting to add more of their personality to their Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 experience.
Now, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Legacy of the Forge DLC is taking that feature one step further. Once players unlock the ability to customize Henry’s home in Legacy of the Forge, they will be able to hang weapons and shields on the walls of his private quarters for display purposes. Unfortunately, there is no way for players to display armor sets, but they will at least be allowed to display any shields they painted with the help of Voyta via the game’s Brushes With Death DLC.
Legacy of the Forge Is the Tie-In Brushes With Death Needed
Again, Brushes With Death’s shield-painting feature was a great addition to the game, but it did have some problems. Specifically, it really only benefited those who actually used shields, and it was also only really worth it if players had that particular painted shield equipped. This effectively makes Legacy of the Forge the answer to that problem, as now anyone can take advantage of Brushes With Death’s best feature unless they would simply rather have their weapons displayed.
It also encourages more intentionality behind the player’s decision to have Voyta paint a shield for them, as they can purposefully customize it to fit the aesthetics of their home. Needless to say, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2‘s Legacy of the Forge DLC is the tie-in that Brushes With Death needed, taking its best feature and making use of it in a meaningful way. It really feels like Warhorse finally found a way to make both expansions speak to each other, and the result is something far more complete than it ever was before.
