How to Unlock Chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Not all locked chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can be opened through the same means. Some of them might require special keys related to the adventure (in the case of chests that contain special quest items) or are locked behind ‘vaults’ in castles or towns.

But the majority of the locked chests found during the adventure, require a very special set of tools to be opened. Those are the Thief’s Key, the Magic Key, and the Ultimate Key. Finding these three will allow players to unlock the majority of locked chests in the adventure, so next, we’re going to reveal where to find these special tools.

Where to Find Three Shiny Bottles in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Discover the locations of all three Empty Bottles in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined to progress Uncle Pike’s questline.

The Thief’s Key is located in Pilgrim’s Perdition (Past) in the local Inn, and players can find it next to a Grey Tablet Fragment, after they liberate High Priestess Jacqueline from the Pit of Silence.

After completing the Alltrades Abbey liberation quest, they just need to go back to Pilgrim’s Perdition and claim the key from the abandoned Inn. And just outside this building and a bit to the north, they will find their first Locked Chest they can open, which contains a Mini-Medal.

From this point on, a large majority of the locked chests will be available, but not all of them. So, next, players will have to progress their story quest to acquire the next key. This happens after players travel to the Hardlypool zone and liberate Wetlock and the neighboring towns from the flood caused by Gracos.

Magic Carpet In DQ7 Reimagined

After doing that, players can travel to La Bravoure, to deliver the Mermaid’s Tear and acquire the Flying Carpet. This will permit them to continue the quest for the Sizzling Stone, and learn about Bulgio, the current owner of the stone, who lives at Bulgio’s Palace, located in L’Arca Region in the Present.

Magic Key in Bulgo Palace DQ7 Reimagined

Travel to L’Arca and use the Flying Carpet to access Bulgio’s Palace. Now, go to the uppermost floor (don’t talk to Bulgio yet) and collect the Magic Key from the chest in the attic. Now, intermediate-tier locked chests can be opened.

The last and final key, is found much later into the adventure, in the Cathedral of Light. When players reach the 1st Level of the Basement in the Cathedral of Light, they need to enter through the stairs on the northern side to reach a room with three chests. One of them has the Ultimate Key, the last and final tool to open all locked chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.
