Ah, Jeff! Such a polarizing Hero, you either love him or hate him. Well, unfortunately, the upcoming mid-Season update will probably tip the scales, as many Marvel Rivals players are stunned that Jeff’s getting a rework. So, what should you expect, and how bad are these changes?
Jeff’s Getting a Rework for Season 2.5
As you know, the devs usually announce bigger updates and release the patch notes ahead of time. They did so this time as well. Season 2.5 will be quite interesting by the looks of it, but some Heroes pulled the short straw when it comes to balancing. Jeff was one of them.
So what do the patch notes say? At first glance, one would say that these many changes could be beneficial. According to the devs: “Jeff’s kit gets a fin-tastic rework. More frontal support and combat ability, but with less survivability.
- Add a new effect to Joyful Splash: Now also deals damage to enemies at 70/s and can heal allies through other allies and enemies. Damage falloff starts at 20m to a maximum of 65% at 40m; Reduce healing per second from 150 to 130.
- Change Aqua Burst to a charge ability (max 3 charges, 3s per charge); New effect: direct hits now launch enemies up; Increase spell field damage from 40 to 45.
- Change the effect of Healing Bubble from One-Time Healing to Healing Over Time. Increase Healing Amount from the previous instant 85 to 120 over 4s. Reduce max charges from 6 to 3 and remove the enemy launch-up effect.
- Add a new effect to Hide and Seek: It now has an energy cap (max 120) that drains by 20/s while submerged and restores 15/s when not.
- It’s Jeff!’s (Ultimate Ability) overflow healing on swallowed allies now grants 45 Health per second as Bonus Health, up to 150.
- Increase the damage reduction received when taking a critical hit from 50% to 70%.
- Increase the energy cost of It’s Jeff (Ultimate Ability) from 4000 to 4500″.

Marvel Rivals Players Are Hopeful the Devs Will Reconsider Jeff’s Balancing
As you know, NetEase devs have proved they truly care about the players’ experience, as they fulfilled the community requests time after time. So, naturally, Marvel Rivals players hope the devs will hear them out again and make a last-minute decision not to go with Jeff’s rework.
Lays_6005 stated: “Will they say something or take constructive criticism? Considering how vocal they are about listening to the players, I feel they should at least respond to the Jeff mains. Okay, sure, nerf his left click capacity or dmg, or even make him share ammo with his primary so Jeffs have to choose whether to heal or do dmg. But no, they straight up amputated everything good about him. His primary healing? Nerfed. His secondary? Nerfed. His bubbles? Nerfed. His dive? NERFED”.
Sure enough, plenty of players agreed. Jeff truly needs a rework, but the announced changes might be a bit too extreme. We’re sure the devs have seen all the requests, and we believe they’ll come up with a solution that will satisfy all the players. In the meantime, enjoy the final days before the Jeff nerf, and see you out there.
