Battlefield 6‘s social media team appears to have given away a free copy of the game to a player who couldn’t afford to buy it on their own. Battlefield 6 is easily one of the biggest video games released in 2025, and thanks to a little kindness, it’s just added one more player to the masses.
With more than 7 million copies sold worldwide since its launch on October 10, Battlefield 6 is officially the best-selling game of 2025 so far. That places it at the top of the list, as compiled by Circana and released on October 20, bumping the following eight entries down a peg, including the former top three of NBA 2K25, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Borderlands 4.

Battlefield 6 Hands Out a Free Copy To Fan on Instagram
Player counts are even higher than those sales figures might suggest, thanks to EA’s free-to-play Battlefield 6 battle royale, Battlefield RedSec, which first became available on October 28. A post on the game’s official Instagram page is now drawing a lot of attention, not just for its content, but because of what happened in the comments. The post itself was celebrating Battlefield 6 becoming the best-selling shooter of 2025, but after one fan stated that they would have to settle for RedSec due to personal finances, the social media team sent an additional reply, telling them “we’ve got you covered” and instructing them to “check your DMs.”
This fan’s Instagram page is set to private, so it’s uncertain exactly what transpired after that message was sent, but the consensus from the fan base is that the player was most likely offered a free copy of the full game. Some fans have pointed out, Battlefield 6 will be offering a free-to-play trial on all available platforms from November 25 to December 1, so the message sent could have been intended as a way to spread this information. Others find that explanation unlikely, likely since news of the trial offer featuring three maps and five game modes already broke earlier this week, and they are assuming generosity on the part of EA. That goodwill is earning Battlefield 6 a lot of metaphorical pats on the back, having racked up more than 3,100 likes on Instagram.
EA and Battlefield Studios have a chance next month to earn a different kind of praise, with Battlefield 6 having been nominated in three categories for The Game Awards 2025. The FPS has a chance at taking home awards for Best Multiplayer Game, Best Action Game, and Best Audio Design. Likewise, it was also nominated in three categories at the Golden Joystick Awards, though it ultimately didn’t take home any trophies.
