I feel so alive with these phantoms of the night
GameCube launch title Luigi’s Mansion is returning just in time for Halloween, with the game coming to the Nintendo Classics library October 30. It joins a lineup of five other titles from the purple lunchbox console: F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo!, and Soulcalibur 2.
There have been three installments in the Luigi’s Mansion franchise, but the first entry is arguably a favorite for many players. While this partially stems from nostalgia, as it served as the initial introduction to a terrified Luigi and his Poltergust 3000, the original game also has an overall creepier atmosphere and spookier spirits compared to the more cartoonish scares that populate later entries.
Luigi’s Mansion is available as part of the GameCube Classics Library, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive feature that comes with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. A single membership costs $49.99 annually, while a family membership — good for up to eight people — costs $79.99. An Expansion Pack membership also includes access to titles from the Game Boy Advance, N64, and Sega Genesis, and DLC like the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass and Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise.
With the release of Luigi’s Mansion on October 30, all three games in the franchise will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. Though the first is a favorite for many, both Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon — which was re-released for Switch as Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD — and Luigi’s Mansion 3 have also received critical praise. With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, players can grab their flashlight, Poltergust 3000, and Game Boy Horror and settle in for a spooky weekend with the complete Luigi’s Mansion trilogy.
