Lunar New Year is one of the biggest holidays in East Asia, and it has become almost a staple of online games to have events for it, just like they have for the “regular” New Year, Christmas, and other holidays. So it is no surprise that Nexon, a Korean company, will be having a special event in The First Descendant, to celebrate one of their biggest holidays. And, during the latest broadcast, after announcements for a new Mission type, Ines Raya, and various QoL updates, The First Descendant devs revealed some Lunar New Year Skins and plans for an Event, coming pretty soon.
Lunar New Year Skins
Naturally, the Lunar New Year is all about traditional Asian customs, so it is no wonder that the upcoming skins are all inspired by traditional Asian attire. On January 16, male Descendants will get an awesome-looking Cyber Warrior Skin (looking a lot like Yoshimitsu from the Tekken franchise).
As for the girls, female Descendants will get three Common skins (meaning you can use them for any female Descendant), inspired by the Hanbok, Kimono, and Qipao, traditional garments of Korea, Japan, and China, respectively.
As far as we know, all of these skins will be Event Skins, and priced accordingly.
The First Descendant Lunar New Year Event
Fans rejoice as the Lunar New Year Event will be an in-game one. Nexon was notorious for having a bunch of their TFD events as web events, which a lot of players had issues with. They are commonplace in Asia, but Western players are not used to them. Thankfully, the Lunar New Year Event will be a “regular” one, and the devs commented that they are aware of the “low accessibility” of web events and will focus on in-game ones more.
The Lunar New Year Event will run from January 16 to February 13, four weeks in total. You’ll earn Event Tokens through Daily and Weekly missions, which you can then exchange at the New Year store. You can get Crystallization Catalysts, Precision Ion Accelerators, Advanced Shape Stabilizers, Gold, Kuiper, Boosts, and more. In the first two weeks, you can also select your favorite from the “weapon selection box” (not sure what they mean by this) or even get some Energy Activators. In the last two weeks, you can also get some Lunar New Year Emotes, Back and Chest Attachments, Sprays, and more.
