There’s more coming: a Made in Abyss film concert featuring composer Kevin Penkin, plus appearances from Saito Akira and MYTH & ROID, who did the theme songs, along with the voice cast.
Made in Abyss started as a manga by Akihito Tsukushi, first published in 2012. The story follows Riko, a determined orphan, and her encounter with Reg, a mysterious android. Together they descend into the Abyss, which is a vast, deadly chasm full of wonders and horrors. With every layer deeper they go, the more dangerous and unnerving it gets, emotionally and physically.
The anime adaptation ran in 2017, bringing that world to life in a way the manga’s mood and detail really benefited from. That was followed by the film Dawn of the Deep Soul in 2020, and The Golden City of the Scorching Sun TV anime in 2022. Both continued the story from the first season and adapted new manga arcs.
If you’re looking to catch up on the series, you can do so by streaming Made in Abyss on Muse Asia and Netflix.
