Something is stirring in the Bungie studio. After months of no updates, it looks like we’re getting some more info on Marathon, as soon as next week, according to Jeff Grubb.
Marathon is actually a very old series of games, running from 1994 to 1996, for Mac OS only, developed by Double Aught and Bungie. It is believed that Marathon is a spiritual predecessor of Bungie’s famous Halo series. Over time, it has had a couple of rereleases, but in May of 2023, Bungie revealed that a new Marathon game is on the way. It will be a PvP sci-fi extraction shooter, set in the Marathon universe naturally. It will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Surprisingly, the Macintosh port is not planned, even though the series was practically a Mac OS exclusive. The last time we heard some news about the game was in October 2024. And now, it looks like something is brewing.
Next Week Will Reveal Some Major Info About the Marathon
It began on April 3. The Marathon X page was riddled with cryptic posts, showing some glitching screens. Next, PlayStation also changed its header to a Marathon-looking logo. Furthermore, a month ago, dataminers found some Marathon files on Bungie’s Steam DB, like bundles and pre-order bonuses, possibly meaning that Steam was slowly getting ready for a release.
And lastly, during the latest episode of Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess show, he said: “Bungie is teasing Marathon. Next week, everybody. Late next week, I think you’ll be able to see a lot more about Marathon at that point.”
Jeff is considered a reliable source, so with the mix of his announcement, X posts, and the changes PlayStation made with the header, it is safe to assume that something big is coming our way. Expecting a full release for next week is a bit far-fetched, but it isn’t impossible. We will see!
