Though these My Hero Academia Quirks are pretty powerful, using them too often comes with some pretty nasty side effects.

What makes quirks stand out from other power systems in shōnen manga and anime is the fact that not all of them are useful only in combat. Many of them have a surprising number of different applications, whether it’s for fighting, communication, transportation, everyday life or more. As a result of this peculiar dynamic, My Hero Academia has featured a lot of versatile quirks, and the following eight are the best ones in the entire series.

8

Frog

Tsuyu Asui (Froppy)

  • Type: Mutant
  • Debut: Chapter 6 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)

While people with Mutant Type quirks (also known as Heteromorphs) often suffer from unfair discrimination, some of them may end up with a useful transformation, especially if they obtained the abilities of a specific animal. When she was first introduced, Tsuyu Asui seemed like another fun character with an adorable frog-like design caused by her Frog quirk, but she ended up being a surprisingly effective heroine.

Of course, Tsuyu’s unique biology allows her to jump at high altitudes, swim around at high speeds and even use her long tongue to attack and capture her opponents, which was already very useful. But, throughout the series, Tsuyu kept showcasing the full versatility of her quirk, as she unlocked more and more abilities, like camouflaging, climbing through walls and even secreting mucus that can hide her scent or paralyze her opponents. Because of this, Tsuyu feels like My Hero Academia’s equivalent of Spider-Man, but with a frog theme instead of an arachnid theme.

7

Slide And Glide

Koichi Haimawari (The Crawler/The Skycrawler)

  • Type: Emitter
  • Debut: Chapter 1 (Vigilantes Manga) Episode 1 (Vigilantes Anime)

Sometimes it’s easy for viewers to forget that quirks actually work similarly to muscles, as they can be trained, enhanced and evolve with enough practice and training. Koichi Haimawari, the main protagonist of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is one of the best examples of this phenomenon, as his quirk, Slide and Glide, initially seemed insignificant and useless but ended up becoming one of the most powerful ones in the entire franchise.

At first, Slide and Glide only allowed Koichi to slide on the ground at the speed of a normal bicycle, which wasn’t really impressive or practical. But, after training with Knuckleduster and facing many dangerous villains in his career as a vigilante, he was able to use his quirk in many brilliant ways and eventually evolved it. By the end of his story, Koichi could use Slide and Glide to stick to walls, move at high speeds, shoot repulsive forces at his opponents, unleash destructive punches and even fly. And he did all of that with just one quirk.

6

Copy

Neito Monoma (Phantom Thief)

  • Type: Emitter
  • Debut: Chapter 29 (Manga) Episode 18 (Anime)

Needless to say, the world of My Hero Academia is brimming with many useful and powerful quirks, so the idea of copying them sounds wonderful. This is exactly what Neito Monoma from Class 1-B can do with his quirk, Copy, which (as its name obviously implies) can copy the powers of others. Monoma can use somebody else’s quirk just by touching them, not to mention that he can even hold up to four of them at the same time.

While these My Hero Academia characters strive to be protectors of society, their personal Quirks seem much more suited for villainy.

This means that Copy can be extremely useful, as it has allowed Monoma to replicate many excellent quirks from his friends, classmates and teachers, like Bakugo’s Explosion, Kodai’s Size, Aizawa’s Erasure and more. Unfortunately, he is also held back by the limitations of his quirk, as he is unable to use more than one at the same time (although he can quickly switch around between them) and he can’t copy any quirks that rely on the original user’s unique body, whether they’re Mutant Type or Accumulation Type.

5

Creation

Momo Yaoyorozu (Creati)

  • Type: Emitter
  • Debut: Chapter 14 (Manga) Episode 10 (Anime)

Momo Yaoyorozu, the vice class representative of Class 1-A, has one of the most fascinating and practical quirks in the entire series. Simply named Creation, it allows her to materialize whatever physical object she can think of from her own body. But, of course, there’s a caveat: its user needs to understand the atomic configuration of every item she creates.

Fortunately, Momo is a brilliant girl with an incredible understanding of physics, so she knows the atomic configurations of many useful items. With Creation, she was able to create all sorts of tools and weapons, like swords, shields, grenades, a catapult, glue, a ladder and even an electromagnetic rail gun. Furthermore, the items Momo creates depend on the amount of lipids within her body – meaning that she’s basically using her own fat for her creations – but she can quickly fix this by eating large amounts of foods rich in fat.

4

Manifest

Tamaki Amajiki (Suneater)

  • Type: Transformation
  • Debut: Chapter 132 (Manga) Episode 68 (Anime)

Being able to use the unique biology and abilities of one specific animal can certainly be useful, but what about wielding the abilities of many different animals at the same time? That’s the reasoning behind Manifest, the quirk of Class 3-A student Tamaki Amajiki, which allows him to manifest the characteristics of everything he consumes from his own body. Of course, most of the time, this means that he can replicate the abilities of multiple animals.

For example: if Tamaki eats takoyaki, he can use octopus tentacles to restrain his opponents, if he eats beef, he can run around with cow legs, if he eats chicken, he can attack villains with sharp talons, etc. The best part of this versatile quirk is that he’s not just limited to animals, since he can also take advantage of the unique properties of any fruits or plants he eats, and he is even able to manifest the characteristics of any non-edible substances he may consume, like the crystals created by a villain’s quirk. Manifest’s only downside is that Tamaki needs to replenish his arsenal by eating large amounts of food every day, but this shouldn’t really be a problem since he is the loyal sidekick of the Body Mass Index Hero: Fat Gum.

3

One For All

Izuku Midoriya (Deku)

  • Type: Emitter/Accumulation
  • Debut: Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Anime)

One For All is the quirk of the legendary #1 Pro Hero of Japan and the famous Symbol of Peace, All Might, so it is undoubtedly extremely powerful. But, does it have any other uses aside from allowing its user to unleash destructive physical attacks? All Might wasn’t really able to answer that question, but his successor, Izuku Midoriya, was. After all, he inherited One for All and used his brilliant mind to give it many different uses.

These are some of the worst quirks that ever graced the world of My Hero Academia.

At first, Deku couldn’t use the full power of his quirk without destroying his body, so he came up with useful applications that only used a fraction of its power, like Full Cowl, a technique that allows it to evenly spread it throughout his body in order to move around quickly. He was also able to use it in combination with support items in order to unleash powerful kicks and even shoot potent blasts of wind. But the moment One For All became truly versatile was when Deku unlocked the other six quirks residing inside it (which belonged to its previous users). Thanks to this incredible development, One For All allowed him to summon tentacles of dark energy, float in the air, produce a smokescreen, sense any immediate danger near him, store and release kinetic energy and alter the speed of anything he touches.

2

All For One

All For One / Tomura Shigaraki

  • Type: Emitter
  • Debut: Chapter 59 (Manga) Episode 33 (Anime)

All For One is the main antagonist of the entire series, since he’s known as the Symbol of Evil and All Might’s arch-nemesis. He gained this infamous reputation thanks to his brilliant strategic mind, his ruthless personality and, of course, All For One, the incredible quirk with which he shares his name. Its main ability is quite simple but extremely effective, as it allows its user to steal, copy and transfer the quirks of anybody he touches with his hands.

Throughout his extensive career as a villain, All For One stole thousands of different quirks that he used to build his empire of terror. This means that he can do pretty much anything he wants: create spears out of his own bones, shoot powerful electric blasts, fly, transport other people and himself, make himself physically stronger, turn others into powerful villains by giving them quirks, transfer his mind to another body, and so much more. With such a flexible, versatile and incredible quirk, it is no surprise that All For One and his apprentice, Tomura Shigaraki, became the biggest villains, not only in Japan, but in the entire world.

1

New Order

Cathleen Bate (Star And Stripe)

  • Type: Emitter
  • Debut: Chapter 330 (Manga) Episode 139 (Anime)

With his quirk, All For One could do almost anything he wanted, but he was still limited to all the pre-existing quirks he had previously stolen and collected. There was another incredible quirk that could alter reality, and it was so powerful and useful that All For One and Shigaraki made it their mission to target its user and steal it for themselves. The name of this quirk is New Order and its user was none other than Star and Stripe, the United States’ #1 Pro Hero.

New Order is notorious for being way more abstract than other quirks in My Hero Academia, as it allows Star and Stripe to set a specific rule on whatever she touches, as long as she also calls out their name when doing it (and it doesn’t even matter if it’s a living being or an inanimate object). This means that she can manipulate anybody and anything, and she was able to pull off a lot of incredible moves with this power, like flying, making herself stronger, reflecting lasers back at her opponents, making a construct out of the air that replicates her movements, turning missiles into a giant explosive punch and even destroying New Order from the inside when Shigaraki almost stole it. Star and Striple did all of that in just one brief battle, and it was implied that she could use her quirk in many other useful ways, which explains how she managed to become the #1 Pro Hero of her country.
