Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Won’t Have Wall-Running, Despite Previous Leaks
Activision shuts down rumors that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will bring back wall-running, but does reveal some important new movement changes.
The full Black Ops 7 reveal—and its eventual release date—is rapidly approaching, with players everywhere looking forward to jumping into its multiplayer experience. While Treyarch has already confirmed that a large portion of the game’s maps will be brand-new, it’s almost certain that some classic multiplayer maps will return during its lifecycle. With that in mind, here are the best multiplayer maps that should make a comeback in Black Ops 7.
1
Magma
Lava-Filled DLC Map From Black Ops 2
With Black Ops 7 being a sequel to Black Ops 2, it’s only natural that some of its roster of maps should make a return with its release, with Magma being an excellent inclusion. This medium-sized map made its initial debut in the Uprising DLC Pack, taking players to Kitakyushu, Japan, in the year 2025, which has fallen victim to a volcanic eruption. The map is definitely out there, but with a rather cool visual aesthetic, hazardous lava to avoid, three distinct lanes, and even underground passageways that add a bit of verticality, the map definitely played quite well.
For a while now, crazy ideas for Call of Duty maps have seemingly been put on the back burner. However, remastering a map like Magma would give Treyarch the ability to test the waters for more wacky multiplayer maps to explore. Add in the rumors of a potential visit to Japan during the Black Ops 7 Campaign, and throwing Magma into the multiplayer map pool may be the most fitting move as far as map remasters go.
2
Infection
Gravity-Defying Simulation Map From Black Ops 3
Infection is without a doubt one of the coolest yet strangest-looking maps in Call of Duty history, and it may just be overdue for a remaster, with Black Ops 7 being the perfect Call of Duty title for its return. Treyarch is definitely no stranger to remastering jetpack-era Call of Duty maps for their boots-on-the-ground games, as Fringe saw its return in Black Ops 6 for the first time since Black Ops 3. Therefore, Infection could make for an excellent addition sometime during Black Ops 7’s lifecycle.
Infection takes players to a war-torn town somewhere in France amidst the Second World War, but something is definitely off. For starters, the world around the map seems to be breaking apart, and another map can be seen stitched to the side of it, forming a wall—one some fans may recognize as Carentan from the original Call of Duty. The trippy design of this map definitely makes it a fitting inclusion for Black Ops 7, which has the motto “embrace the madness” present in all of its marketing.
3
Nuketown
A Staple For The Black Ops Series
- Featured in Black Ops, Black Ops 2, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 4, COD Mobile, Black Ops Cold War, & Black Ops 6
At this point, the question isn’t whether Nuketown will arrive in Black Ops 7, but when. Nuketown is somewhat of a staple for the Black Ops series, having been present in every single title since the original Black Ops. While Treyarch’s Black Ops 7 is immediately following Black Ops 6, which also featured Nuketown, it’s entirely likely that the fan-favorite map will return once again in some form.
The lazy way this could happen is by simply carrying forward Black Ops 6’s Nuketown into Black Ops 7, but that’s less than desirable. Instead, with Black Ops 7 taking place in 2035, a more futuristic rendition of the map—perhaps more in the style of Nuketown 2025 or even Nuk3town from Black Ops 3—would be a much more fitting addition to the map pool.
4
Hijacked
Small & Hectic Map From Black Ops 2
- Featured in Black Ops 2, Black Ops Cold War, COD Mobile, and Black Ops 3 (as Skyjacked)
Nuketown is easily one of the most iconic maps in the Black Ops series, especially for players who enjoy nonstop action due to its tight, chaotic layout. That said, another small-scale map that holds a similar appeal is Hijacked, which originally debuted in Black Ops 2 multiplayer. Hijacked has long been a fan-favorite, taking players aboard a luxury yacht set at sea, with tight corridors, three distinct lanes, and interior sections on both spawns spanning two levels.
Its small and chaotic gameplay is its biggest appeal, especially in objective-based modes like Search and Destroy. Given that Black Ops 7 is also a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, Hijacked feels like a natural fit to return during its lifecycle. It would make for a perfect Strike map capable of supporting both 2v2 and 6v6 playlists—assuming the same playlist structure from Black Ops 6 is carried over.

5
Aftermath
War-Torn Cityscape From Black Ops 2
From chaotic, small-scale maps to the ruined downtown of Los Angeles, we now have Aftermath—a map that carries significant narrative weight in Black Ops 2. It’s set in the aftermath of the mission Cordis Die, where a drone strike devastates Los Angeles. With Black Ops 7 seemingly continuing this storyline and bringing the Cordis Die movement back to the forefront of its campaign, Aftermath feels like a strong candidate for a multiplayer remake.
Aftermath is more of a medium-sized map, set in the wreckage of downtown L.A., and features multiple buildings that players can enter and lock down. It offers a mix of open areas and long sightlines for ranged encounters, as well as tight corners and narrow paths that create frantic close-quarters gunfights and provide chokepoints to control. The map holds up well in terms of gameplay, considering it was one of Black Ops 2’s launch maps. With this being the case, it would be great to see Black Ops 7 pay homage to it in some shape or form.
6
Express
High Speed Railway Map From Black Ops 2
- Featured in Black Ops 2, Black Ops Cold War, and COD Mobile
Following the trend of Black Ops 2 maps—and definitely one of the more iconic entries on this list—is Express, a launch map from Black Ops 2 that also made a return in Black Ops Cold War during Season One. This semi-medium-sized map drops players into a high-speed railway station in Los Angeles, where battles can unfold across the tracks or inside the terminal on the northern side of the map.
The map takes a significant departure from the traditional layouts seen in many other Black Ops 2 maps, featuring a curved railway that stretches from the left to the right side of the play area. An express train will also periodically blitz through the open track, instantly eliminating any players caught in its path. With its fast-paced action and unconventional design, Express remains a fun and unique entry, making it an excellent candidate for a remaster in Black Ops 7.
7
Stronghold
Snowy Estate From Black Ops 3
Next up is a Black Ops 3 launch map that many players may have forgotten about altogether. Stronghold might not be the first map that comes to mind for long-time Call of Duty fans when thinking about remasters, but it definitely played well when it was last seen. While it debuted for a game that featured advanced movement, the general lack of areas requiring wall-running to avoid falling out of bounds makes the map surprisingly boots-on-the-ground friendly, which could make for a great candidate for a remaster in Black Ops 7.
Stronghold is more of a medium-sized map, featuring a large central building on the eastern side, with another interior space on the opposite end that leads down to the northern flank route. There’s also a smaller building on the other side of the map. The remaining area is composed of snowy, rocky forest terrain that blends tight lanes for close-quarter combat with long sightlines ideal for ranged gunfights. While seeing Stronghold return in Black Ops 7 might be a long shot, with a little innovation, it could definitely work.
8
Cargo
Dynamic Map From Black Ops 2
Back to Black Ops 2 maps now with Cargo, one of the launch multiplayer battlegrounds that stands out in the initial roster. Cargo takes players to the semi-futuristic Port of Singapore, offering a mix of tight, narrow lanes for intense close-quarters and ranged encounters, along with open areas, such as the circular portion near the map’s center.
What sets Cargo apart from many other maps on this list is how the play area changes throughout the match. During gameplay, shipping containers are periodically raised and lowered, potentially opening up new sightlines or cutting off key areas altogether. This dynamic feature is definitely one of Cargo’s defining traits, and it could make for a fresh experience if it were to return to Black Ops 7.
9
Raid
Iconic Launch Map From Black Ops 2
- Featured in Black Ops 2, Call of Duty Online, COD Mobile, and Black Ops Cold War
When it comes to Black Ops 2 maps that should return for Black Ops 7, Raid is often at the center of the conversation. Raid has definitely seen its fair share of remasters—appearing in Call of Duty Online, COD Mobile, and even making a return in Season One of Black Ops Cold War. However, with maps like Nuketown appearing in every Black Ops title since the original, it’s not entirely out of the question to see Raid return once again in Black Ops 7.
Raid is absolutely a fan-favorite, transporting players to a luxury estate in Hollywood Hills. Here, players can expect a mix of close-quarters action within the mansion, blended with long-range encounters around the estate. Expect fights between luxury supercars and chaotic gunfights around swimming pools. As one of the most iconic Black Ops 2 maps to date, Raid is a fitting location that deserves to make its return in Black Ops 7 multiplayer.
10
Hunted
Mountain Lodge From Black Ops 3
Last but not least is Hunted from Black Ops 3, another map included in the game’s initial launch roster. Hunted may be one of the more overlooked maps in the franchise for some—especially for those considering potential remasters for Black Ops 7—but it’s a solid contender for a few key reasons. The map itself is definitely one of the more vibrant on this list, taking players to a mountain lodge surrounded by rocky forest terrain and several standout features.
Hunted leans more toward the large side, consisting of the lodge itself near the map’s center, a smaller building on the opposite end, and various surrounding areas such as a cave system that leads directly to a body of water flowing off the map. While there are certainly areas originally designed to accommodate Black Ops 3’s advanced movement, with a bit of adjustment, Hunted could absolutely be adapted to support boots-on-the-ground gameplay in Black Ops 7.
