My Hero Academia Final Season will be out in October 2025, and fans are eager to see the final arc finally brought to life. One of the most popular characters in My Hero Academia is Katsuki Bakugo, and he plays a major role in the final battle against Tomura Shigaraki/All for One.

Bakugo is one of the main characters and a fan favorite of many readers, partly due to his personality. Just like Todoroki, he grows a lot during the series, and he still dreams of becoming the top Hero at the end of the story.

Last we saw, Bakugo was near death, with Edgeshot saving him. However, Bakugo has a crucial role in Season 8 that only he can accomplish.

Bakugo’s Role in the Final Saga

He Almost Died But Never Gave Up

Bakugo played an important role in the Final Saga, as he faced All for One alongside his classmates. However, as expected, Tomura was the toughest enemy they had ever faced so far, and for a while it seemed that no side would be able to win.

Shigaraki wants to use his powers to create a “new world”, one under his rule, of course, where everyone would be equal and there would be peace — at least, that’s how he tries to convince them to quit the battle. But Bakugo remembered that his friends were working hard and giving their best. Bakugo then unleashes a powerful attack, and basically rejects what Tomura had been saying, showing how much he has grown.

Even though his attack was powerful, it was not enough, and he ended up critically wounded. Even so, Bakugo used all of his strength to resist and continue fighting. In an emotional and thrilling battle, Bakugo attempted one last move, but he apparently ended up dead. Deku was shocked to see Bakugo lying on the ground in a pool of blood — but, in fact, Katsuki was still alive, and he never gave up.

For All for One, the final fight became a personal issue, and he was determined to kill Bakugo. Fortunately, All for One was defeated, but Bakugo was on the brink of death and fainted. However, while Bakugo was the key character in the final segments of the fight, the defeat of All for One was a team effort. He later recovered from his injuries and returned to his normal life.

Actually, he awakened new powers during the battle (and he saved All Might), but he wasn’t able to use his new abilities to their full potential.

Bakugo’s Rank At The End of the Series

The battle aired on international television, and everyone could see what the Pro Heroes and Class A had done. Bakugo proved that he had come a long way, not only in terms of power, but also when it comes to personal growth.

The epilogue, set eight years later, shows that Deku lost his One for All Quirk and became a teacher, which angered many fans who wanted Deku to become Hero Number 1. In fact, neither Bakugo nor Shoto Todoroki became number one. Shoto is number two and Bakugo is number 15:

  1. Lemillion
  2. Shoto
  3. Mt. Lady
  4. Kamui Woods
  5. Best Jeanist
  6. Mirko
  7. Nejire Chan
  8. Wash
  9. Tentacole
  10. Phantom Thief
  11. Fat Gum
  12. Red Riot
  13. Ingenium
  14. Mudman
  15. Explosive Hero: Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight (Bakugo)

This rank surprised many fans when it first came out. However, the Japanese rank doesn’t take only power or strength into account. It also considers their general popularity, how many cases they have solved, and how important those solved cases are.

Can Bakugo Still Become Number 1?

Camie's Illusion of Bakugo

Bakugo aims to become number 1, but his personality seems to get in the way. His explosive traits are not only related to his Quirks, but also to his behavior, which leads to a general bad opinion of him — even though everyone knows how hard he fought against All for One, as shown on TV. In the last chapter, he even yells at a fan trying to film him, so he is seen as troublesome, even though he is powerful.

Bakugo deserves to be Number 1 or, at least, to rank a little higher, but he will have to do a lot of self-work to get to the top spot. While he has come a long way, he still has a lot to learn (and this could even lead to a spin-off series).

My Hero Academia is available to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in many languages. It may be on Netflix and other services in select countries.

He himself is born without any, but circumstances lead to that changing. He enrolls at the UA High School, a prestigious academy where the worlds future heroes learn how to use their powers.
