Now that video game adaptations have become a highly popular trend with countless studios taking a crack at the whip with Arcane, The Last of Us, and Fallout, it wasn’t a big surprise when the fans heard that they’d get a live-action adaptation of Sony Santa Monica’s PlayStation hit, God of War. Updates on the adaptation have been light on the ground ever since its development was initially announced, but now, it has been reported that a writer and producer who worked on the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher has joined the God of War writers’ room team.
Announced in 2022, the adaptation of God of War looked like it could have hit a roadblock when several scripts for the first season were written before Sony and Amazon decided to move in a different creative direction. Thankfully, the series found its new showrunner in Star Trek and the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica television series creator, Ronald D. Moore. Moore recently revealed that he couldn’t play the God of War games due to being unfamiliar with a controller. This may raise some red flags for those who would want someone familiar with the inner workings of Kratos and its intricate Norse world, but seeing as Moore has had a lot of success with his other endeavors, it seems as though it could be in safe hands. The good news is that God of War’s long-time creative director, writer, and producer, Cory Barlog, is also attached as a producer to oversee the TV adaptation.

The Witcher Writer Teams up With Amazon’s God of War TV Series
According to Redanian Intelligence, which is usually an excellent source of entertainment news, Tania Lotia has now joined the God of War live-action team as a writer. Lotia was a writer and producer on popular shows like The Witcher, Invincible, Carnival Row, Swamp Thing, as well as The Witcher: Blood Origin, and is now bringing her creative talents to the Amazon Prime Video adaptation as the Norse-filled epic gets underway. Lotia has also been involved in the Critical Role TV series project, Mighty Nein, so fans can expect some solid storytelling.
In March, Moore discussed more of the plans for what was going on currently with the God of War adaptation series, revealing that the live-action series had already been picked up to run for two seasons on Prime Video. “Right now, I’m working on an adaptation of this video game called God of War. It’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they asked me to come in,” Moore continued. “I’m literally in the writer’s room and working on that. That’s my new thing.”
Currently, nothing else is known about Amazon’s God of War TV series as yet, but fingers crossed that fans will hear about casting announcements and even more updates soon. Some of the rumored candidates for the lead role of Kratos are Jason Momoa, as well as Christopher Judge, who has voiced Kratos in the gaming franchise. For those hoping that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be an ideal person to play Kratos, that rumor was quickly put to bed by the game’s director, Cory Barlog.
