The latest update for Hollow Knight: Silksong has made its way to consoles, bringing improvements to the game. This update was released early in November for PC but has now gone live on all platforms, giving Hollow Knight: Silksong players a more refined gameplay experience.
Since its highly anticipated release on September 4, Hollow Knight: Silksong has received positive reviews from critics and fans. The game has become so highly regarded that it has been nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025. Team Cherry’s latest adventure stars Hornet as she explores the kingdom of Pharloom, pitting players against new bosses that feature the trademark brutal difficulty the original Hollow Knight was known for. Despite the fanfare, some bugs have cropped up along the way. Fortunately, the developers have released multiple updates to address some of the issues.
I Marathoned Hollow Knight And Silksong, And I Want To Play As These Characters In A Third Game
After spending the last two and a half months fully immersed in Hollow Knight’s fantastic world, these are the characters I want to play as next.
The most recent of these is Patch 4, and players on all platforms can now download it. The update makes many improvements and even officially adds one fan mod. Specifically, the patch notes reveal that a new Simplified Chinese translation by the fan group Team Cart Fix is now an option in the base game. It should be noted that while many fans praised the gameplay at launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong was review bombed by Chinese-language users due to translation issues. As Team Cherry points out, numerous players have already used Team Cart Fix’s translation mod on PC with positive results. However, making it an official part of the game makes it accessible to those on all platforms.
Besides the new translation, the update switches the game to Unity’s input system. According to the patch notes, this change is to “improve overall controller support.” Additionally, Patch 4 squashes more bugs that players have encountered. While Silksong is a relatively bug-free experience, these latest fixes address community concerns and should improve the gameplay. Some highlights include fixing Fractured Mask to properly protect against volt hazards and changing Multibinder so that the initial bind clears maggots, which could be useful in places like Bilewater. Furthermore, the patch lets players use the Bellway without potentially clearing Hornet’s plasmified state. The Wreath of Purity also had its durability increased in Patch 4, making it better to have when dealing with poison water.
With Patch 4 now out, it will be interesting to see what other changes Team Cherry has planned for Silksong. One request some fans have is for a difficulty option to be added to the game. Like 2017’s Hollow Knight, the game features some challenging sections. While the developer has previously patched Silksong to address some of these difficulty concerns, a section of gamers wants a difficulty option to better adjust the experience to their liking. It remains to be seen if Team Cherry will ever implement this feature.
When discussing difficulty level, it is worth noting that the bosses of Silksong were designed differently from those in the original Hollow Knight. According to William Pellen, bosses have a new system for picking attacks. In Silksong, they are more proactive, repositioning to use a specific attack. This contrasts with Hollow Knight, where the enemies were reactive to the player’s positioning. These comments from Pellen could give some clues as to why some players believe the game feels more challenging than Team Cherry’s first title.
While it remains to be seen when the next patch for the game will come, fans can rest assured that more content is in the pipeline. Previously, the developers commented on plans for Silksong DLC, meaning long-term support for the game. In addition, the game’s composer, Christopher Larkin, said he was continuing to work with Team Cherry, further teasing more updates for the popular Metroidvania. So far, the details of future DLC remain unknown, but if the plans are similar to the roadmap for the original Hollow Knight, then fans might have a lot to look forward to.
