New PS5 Game Releasing August 28 Has Serious Zelda: Breath of the Wild Vibes

Indie game The Knightling, launching for PS5 and other platforms on August 28, is clearly inspired by Nintendo’s open world epic The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The Knightling has been turning heads ever since its gameplay reveal trailer that showcased a gameplay style highly reminiscent of the beloved Breath of the Wild.

The Knightling is set in the world of Clesseia. Players take on the role of the titular Knightling, who searches a huge open world in search of their missing mentor. Something unique about The Knightling is that the player’s primary tool is a shield, not a sword, with the shield used for both combat and traversal. Over the course of the game, Knightling players will unlock new abilities for the shield that will expand their arsenal of moves and make exploration that much easier.

Best Games To Play If You Liked Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

The following games may not be Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, but they will certainly scratch the same itch as Nintendo’s open-world masterpiece.

Knightling trailers have always given off Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes, making it something that fans of Nintendo’s game should definitely keep an eye on. Players glide and surf their way around an open world that’s presented in a cartoony art style that is also similar to what’s on display in Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild is one of the highest-rated video games of all time, and so it makes sense that other titles are taking inspiration from it, though it means that The Knightling also has to do a lot to prove itself. With the game set to launch on August 28, fans don’t have to wait much longer to see if it lives up to the hype.

When is The Knightling Release Date?

  • The Knightling launches August 28 for PC, PS5, and Xbox.

When The Knightling releases, it will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox, giving fans on non-Nintendo platforms another Zelda-like game to check out. Originally, there were plans to release The Knightling on the Switch as well, but those plans have been axed. The developers described the choice to ditch the Switch 1 version of the game as a “difficult decision” but didn’t elaborate as to why the choice was made. While this is no doubt disappointing, at least Switch owners have actual Zelda games to play, while PC, PS5, and Xbox gamers do not.

In any case, what’s been shown of The Knightling so far looks very promising, and it should be one of the more exciting PS5 releases in August 2025. Here’s hoping it lives up to expectations come its release date on August 28.
