A new report has revealed some very impressive player engagement numbers for FromSoftware’s 2022 hit, Elden Ring. Ever since its release a few years back, Elden Ring has captivated gamers with its classic blend of RPG mechanics and classic Soulslike elements, and it seems that players are sticking around for the long haul.

Boasting a Top Critic Average of 95 on review aggregator site OpenCritic, Elden Ring is the definition of “critically acclaimed.” Both it and the 2024 expansion Shadow of the Erdtree were beloved by players, and the sales reflect this, too. Earlier this month, Elden Ring passed the 30 million sales milestone, showcasing that even a game that massively challenges its players can still be a wide commercial success.

The Elden Ring movie exists only to disappoint a fan base who have forged their identity through hundreds of hours of suffering.

A recent report by Alinea Analytics has shed some light on how Elden Ring players play the game, with some shockingly high numbers. For example, 10.2% of the player base on Steam and 10.9% on PlayStation have managed to get all the Elden Ring achievements, despite it being a tough list to complete. An incredible 45% of the game’s players on Steam have played for over 100 hours, although that falls to just 2.1% when the time limit increases to 500 hours. Regardless, that’s still extreme dedication from a big portion of the player base.

Elden Ring Data Reveals High Percentage of Dedicated Players

The Alinea report also looked at how Elden Ring compares to some of its competitors, including Baldur’s Gate 3 and Diablo 4. When all the players between the three games were added together, Elden Ring had the most significant share of players in the 100-to-500-hour bracket, with 42.6%. This is ultimately a testament to Elden Ring‘s replayability, with players hopping in for repeat playthroughs further down the line.

It’s undeniably an exciting time to be an Elden Ring fan. With Elden Ring Nightreign set to give players a new co-op experience, it will be interesting to see how the formula translates. Meanwhile, Alex Garland is set to tackle an Elden Ring film for A24. Even in a totally different medium, the potential for Elden Ring on the big screen is obvious, and it’s a very exciting prospect to think about.
