Next-Gen Xbox Consoles Could be More Expensive Than PlayStation 6

The next generation of Xbox consoles could be significantly more expensive, thanks to the new processor powering them. According to a new leak, AMD’s upcoming “Magnus” APU could push the console’s price into the $800–1,200 range.

For comparison, previous leaks suggest that Sony’s PlayStation 6 might use AMD’s Orion processor, which is said to have 9 or 10 cores and around 52–54 RDNA compute units. That gives Microsoft’s upcoming hardware a notable edge on paper.

If true, the price hike might sting, but it could make sense for players looking for a machine that doubles as a PC replacement.

Microsoft also shot down the recent rumours about Xbox leaving the hardware business. “We are actively investing in our future first-party consoles and devices designed, engineered and built by Xbox,” Microsoft said last week. The company also pointed fans to its ongoing partnership with AMD.

Reports suggest Microsoft plans to launch its next-gen hardware in 2027, with successors to the Xbox Series X and S now said to be in full production. Its most recent release was the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally handhelds.
