  • The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.

Nintendo has officially dispelled rumors that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers would have Hall Effect joysticks, much to the disappointment of some fans. The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled back in January, with more information about the new console being shown off at a Nintendo Direct livestream in early April. During the latter presentation, gamers finally learned when the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released and its suggested retail price, along with a few of the titles players will be able to enjoy at launch.

Part of that enjoyment will depend on the quality of the Nintendo Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers, and gamers have been naturally worried that the original Switch’s joystick drift would carry over to the new system. Throughout the old Nintendo Switch’s lifespan, players have complained about joystick drift, which would cause their sticks to slide into a certain position and potentially ruin gameplay. There have been several lawsuits over the issue, and Nintendo has reportedly looked into efforts to make sure the Switch 2 won’t have the same problems.

Nintendo Switch 2 Fans Want One Change Made to New GameCube Controller

Fans of the Nintendo Switch 2 are asking for one major change to be made to the layout of the new Nintendo console’s GameCube controller.

Some rumors have suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 would utilize Hall Effect sensors for its joysticks, which use magnets to transmit input signals and would avoid the wear-and-tear that led to the joystick drift that plagued the original Switch. Unfortunately, Nintendo has officially confirmed that this won’t be the case in an interview between NintendoLife and Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Product Development & Publishing Nate Bihldorff. He says that while the Nintendo Switch 2’s joysticks have been redesigned from the ground up, they won’t be Hall Effect sticks.

Nintendo Switch 2 Doesn’t Have Hall Effect Joysticks

While Bihldorff didn’t specify if this only applies to the standard Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 controllers, the way he quickly deflected the issue seems to imply that the recently revealed Switch 2 Pro controllers won’t have Hall Effect joysticks either. However, he assured gamers that the Nintendo Switch 2’s joysticks will feel good to use, even comparing the Pro Controller to the beloved Nintendo GameCube’s pad in how quiet the joysticks are when they move.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has fallen under considerable scrutiny since last week’s Nintendo Direct, mainly due to the surprisingly high cost of not only the system itself, but certain launch titles like Mario Kart World. The United States’ newly implemented global tariffs have seemingly compounded the issue, causing Nintendo to delay Switch 2 pre-orders in the US. Despite this, the Nintendo Switch 2 and its controllers are set to launch on June 5.
