Nintendo Switch 2 US pre-order dates quietly added to its website

The Nintendo Switch 2 may soon be available for pre-order in the United States in Canada after being delayed by Nintendo, and the company’s website could have spilled the beans.

Nintendo’s site has a sign-up page for gamers to register interest on purchasing the new console from the My Nintendo Store. And in the FAQ section at the bottom of the page, Nintendo teased that it will be close to another month before this could happen.

“The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation emails sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone,” Nintendo said.

This is only for the My Nintendo Store thus far, but it could give an idea of when to expect pre-orders to go live elsewhere on other retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and others.

In order to qualify to be invited to purchase a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, “you must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, you must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months, and you must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours,” according to the FAQ.

Switch 2 pre-orders were supposed to go live yesterday, April 9, but the company was forced to delay it after a new round of “reciprocal” tariffs were placed against the rest of the world by US president Donald Trump.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo told Polygon on April 4. “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

With the tariffs going up and down on almost a daily basis, the Switch 2’s $449 launch price could eventually increase before June 5, too, but here’s hoping it stays where it is.
