Despite being intended as the next end-game craze, the Mutant Cells left The First Descendant players a bit underwhelmed, rather than excited.
The 1.2.18 Update added a lot of things to TFD. Even though the Dynamic Motion took the cake, Mutant Cells sounded like a pretty cool feature, and something that would keep the players occupied, until Season 3. Unfortunately, while some players are fine with the extra challenge, many are not so happy with the Mutant Cells, saying it is another repetitive grind, not worth the hassle.
Players Underwhelmed by Mutant Cells in The First Descendant
Mutant Cells are an upgrade to the Arche Tuning, letting you tweak your Descendants a bit further, with additional improvements. Sounds pretty good, but as some players pointed out, we’re still lacking some challenging content, so there is not much demand for even more buffs. But the main point of all the critiques is that they are so hard to come by. It was recently added to the “pity system” (Target Rewards), but each run progresses the bar for about 3%, meaning you’re gonna have to grind for a while. And is it all worth it?
This has been discussed in the community over various social media, and one player on Reddit said it best, stating that the bonuses granted by Mutant Cells are absolutely nothing special and, with a few exceptions, not worth the grind. “Majority of the Mutant Cells are straight up bad or very niche – situational at best. With the exception of the [Insert Element] Cohesion & Defense Neutralization Mutant Cells. Sadly the damage increase is 5% ~ 10% at best, which is barely noticable due Enemies already dying pretty fast even without Arche Tuning, let alone mutant cells.“
Others were quick to agree, with folks saying that Weapon Cores are significantly better designed and more useful compared to Mutant Cells. “I think the grind is really unnecessary, 5% drop on these items feels honestly very unrewarding…power wise they’re barely noticeable…So yeah, they’re pretty meh, it feels like filler content to keeps us doing something until Season 3 comes out I suppose.” said mikeyeli. More agree, with some going so far as to say that this is just a way to occupy players with something.
Sadly, new features in TFD are very hit-and-miss as of late. Though Nexon did say that their whole attention is on the upcoming Season 3, so we can give them a break. Hopefully, they will make Mutant Cells more worthwhile. Don’t forget, the devs asked for player questions, which they will answer in June, so we may get some new info on the Mutant Cells pretty soon.
