Going through quite the redemption arc, Cyberpunk 2077 is nowadays firmly established as one of the greatest open-world RPGs of the last decade, especially if we are talking sci-fi solely. Although it was always somewhat playable on PC and Xbox Series, CD Projekt Red’s game still had a notoriously rough launch, leading to a lengthy process of updates that would eventually culminate in the 2.0 version. Nowadays, there is absolutely no reason not to play C2077, particularly when it is readily available on Game Pass.

While a few things could be better, C2077 still comes very close to being the full package. The story is defined by fantastic characters, strong dialogue, impactful choices, and subtle world-building. Unlike The Witcher 3‘s Geralt, players have far more input in shaping V’s personality, background, playstyle, outlook, and outcome. The customization is top-notch and allows for a pretty wide assortment of builds, some of which can be downright overpowered. Although it might not have met all the pre-release promises, Night City is still an impressive playground and one of the best cities in the open-world genre.

Microsoft has confirmed that games like Enter the Gungeon and Lightyear Frontier will be leaving Game Pass on March 15, 2026, but it has yet to announce the departures for April. Consequently, we can only guess which titles might say goodbye, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is definitely the biggest candidate. A few exceptions aside, a game typically must remain on Game Pass for at least a year; however, after that point, it could potentially leave at any moment. Sandfall’s modern masterpiece launched on April 24, 2025, meaning its Game Pass safety net will be removed next month.
Most subscribers have probably already played 2025’s game of the year winner, as Clair Obscur has been inescapable since its debut. However, if you are not into turn-based RPGs or just don’t see a need to give the game a go, I would recommend changing that as soon as possible. Clair Obscur might not be for you, but it is fantastic enough that you should confirm that directly rather than assuming.

Blue Prince was slightly unlucky to launch in April 2025. In any other month, it would have been remembered as the standout indie game and the best Day One Game Pass release; unfortunately, it was overshadowed by Clair Obscur. With a strong central mystery, a cool aesthetic, and a brilliant concept, Blue Prince is a creative puzzle roguelike that challenges players to make their way through a mansion by piecing together its layout of rooms, all in the hope of reaching the hidden 46th chamber within 50 steps.

Dripping with style and incredibly addictive, the game has way more to offer than just an intriguing gimmick, and it is just an all-around complete package. I don’t know if Blue Prince will leave Game Pass soon, but don’t risk missing out on this gem.

While Game Pass has only announced one March 2026 Day One debut, Planet of Lana 2 is exciting. Sure, it isn’t as big a deal as Silksong or the upcoming Forza Horizon 6, but it is arguably a pitch-perfect Game Pass game. Planet of Lana 2 is exactly the type of project that needs to be discovered through a subscription service, as many folks might be hesitant to purchase it directly (or might not even know it exists).
A 2.5D puzzle-adventure game that emphasizes storytelling above everything else, Planet of Lana 2 is packed to the brim with heart, tragedy, character depth, and even hints of darkness. Don’t be fooled by the colorful visuals; the story is mature and heavy, all the while still retaining an adventurous tone.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is more well-known than this medieval open-world game, CD Projekt Red’s project has been out for more than 5 years, so most people have likely already given it a go. In comparison, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 debuted in February 2025, making it a relatively fresh property. Despite being among the best releases of the previous year, KCD2 is niche enough to put off interested parties who just weren’t sure if they would enjoy it. Thankfully, Game Pass has eliminated that fear, allowing everyone to take a trip to the past and experience Henry’s second chapter.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is also on Game Pass, and it is great in its own right. However, KCD2 is more polished and accessible, so don’t hesitate to jump to the sequel if you are not enjoying the first entry.
Except for its predecessor, there are no other open-world games like KCD2. A historical epic that leans into realism and natural skill development, the game commits 100% to its goal, resulting in an uncompromised journey that comes with a learning curve that is worth mastering.
