Look. I am not here to judge anyone about their requests for Pokémon Pokopia, especially when we know so very little about the game, other than it being some kind of Animal Crossing-like game in a backwards Pokémon Mystery Dungeon-type universe. However, I think the internet has been pretty vocal about one particular thing they want in-game.
And despite what you might think it is, such as some type of new interesting mechanic or crossover or anything out of the box, the one feature I have seen everyone gushing about, pretty much, is a feature that only the Pokémon community would care about.
And before giving it away, I’ll let content creator GlaxonXIII say what everyone is thinking before we dive into it.
That’s right. I’m of course talking about Shiny Pokémon. In fact, it’s hard not to look at social media or anywhere else people speak about the game currently, you’ll find mock-ups, memes, and content around the idea of adding Shiny Pokémon to a game where we have zero idea how the mechanics work just yet.
And there is a good reason for that.
Imagine, for example, if you only unlock a single Pokémon through a method akin to the Viva Piñata games. Like, after having x amount of grass patches, that is the requirement for Squirtle to spawn. But you only get one Squirtle. Would trainers really spend hours at the start of a game constantly soft resetting until a Shiny Squirtle appears in your little town?
… of course they would. What am I saying?
Even so, the sheer amount of trainers wanting to see Shiny Pokémon in-game shouldn’t come as any surprise. It feels like Shiny Pokémon have become a staple request in every Pokémon game under the sun. We have them in near enough every mobile game now, from Pokémon Sleep to Pokémon Go, and even recent games have started to add Shiny Pokémon into them for events—so I doubt Pokémon Pokopia wouldn’t follow suit.
But if they were to add Shiny Pokémon, I would hope that they use these different colored Pokémon to tie in with the story, akin to how Pokémon Mystery Dungeon used to use Shiny Pokémon for unique and essential characters (Shiny Celebi and Purple Kecleon, anyone?)
I’m all for Shiny Pokémon making an appearance here, but only if they serve a use to the game in a way that’s unique. But perhaps I am the minority here in thinking that way.
