Mont (Kotone Montagne) is an Assassin Phantom Idol in Persona 5: The Phantom X, and players will be able to get it as part of the Free Pulls for new players. The fact that this 4-star character is a freebie doesn’t mean she is bad. On the contrary, Mont is currently one of the strongest characters in the roster, being able to freeze entire enemy teams and deal high-end critical damage to a single target.

Best Panther Build in Persona 5 Phantom X
Panther is one of the strongest Phantom Thieves in P5X, and here’s how to build her to destroy every enemy in the game.
But for that, players need to have the correct build, and in a game so complex as P5X, this is not an easy task. This guide will help players achieve the best possible build for Kotone Montagne, and includes a deep analysis of her skills, Awakening perks, best Weapons, and recommended Revelations sets and team composition.
All Mont Skills & Passives in Persona 5 The Phantom X
Kotone specializes in dealing brutal amounts of damage, thanks to her complex self-buff mechanics that involve stacking Ice Crystals, attaining Blade Dancer, Resonance, and the Parhelion state. While Ice Crystals charges can be gained by attacking enemies with Mont, the Blade Dancer effect is an immediate free action similar to a follow-up Attack that can be activated by spending Ice Crystals. Resonance becomes active when Mont reaches 10 stacks of Ice Crystals, guaranteeing that the next attack or follow-up, deals 65% extra damage and is a Critical Hit. When Mont uses Frost Lily or Winter Storm while Resonance is active, she gains Parhelion, empowering her next use of ‘Durandal of Ice‘ attack, which is a massive single-target nuke.
As players might have guessed by now, playing Kotone right requires rhythm and purpose (she is an Ice Skater after all) and yields great results when accompanied by the right party members. Here’s a detailed list of all Mont’s abilities in P5X:
- Frost Lily: Deals Ice damage to all foes equal to 57.1% of Mont’s Attack. With a 19.2% chance to inflict Freeze on enemies.
- Durandal of Ice: Deals Ice damage to 1 foe equal to 117.8% of Kotone’s Attack. When Kotone has Parhelion or 10+ Ice Cystal stacks, it increases damage based on the foe’s missing HP (up to 19.2%). When Blade Dancer is activated, it increases follow-up damage dealt based on the foe’s missing HP (up to 19.2%).
- Winter Storm: Deals Ice damage to 1 foe equal to 105.2% of Attack. Mont gains 4 Ice Crystal stacks after using this attack.
- Thief Tactics (Terpsichore): Terpsichore’s Highlight attack deals Ice damage to 1 foe equal to 192.0% of Mont’s Attack. Increase damage based on the foe’s missing HP. When the foe’s HP is below 20%, increase by an extra 10%. 1 MORE (Follow-up Attack) deals Ice Damage to 1 Foe. Melee Attack: Deals damage to 1 foe (also causes Mont to gain Ice Crystal). Ranged Attack: Deals Gun Damage to 1 Foe until all ammo is spent.
- Frozen in time (passive): When damaging a Foe with Blade Dancer, there’s a 33% chance to inflict Freeze (increases to 66% Chances at level 2, and 100% at level 3).
- State of Selfness (passive): When Kotone defeats a Foe, she gains 2 Ice Crystal Stacks (increases to 3 Stacks at level 2, and 4 Stacks at level 3).
The Freeze State reduces the damage enemies cause by 12%, and lasts 2 turns. Like most Elemental Ailments in P5X, it can be strategically deployed to cause harmful effects during difficult combats. Don’t forget to learn all about Ailments to use them efficiently during tough battles.
Here’s a detailed list of all Awareness Passives that can be unlocked by drawing Kotone again from the Phantom Idol Banners. Each Awareness level increases her overall combat performance, so keep this in mind to empower her to the maximum:
Awareness Level |
Passive |
---|---|
Rank 0 |
On Ally’s action, Kotone gains 1 Ice Crystal stack. Stacks up to 12 times. After using a skill, when Ice Crystal reaches 10 stacks, it activates Resonance, spending 10 Ice Crystal stacks to deal 65% follow-up Ice damage to the main target. Resonance empowered attacks are guaranteed to be a critical hit. |
Rank 1 |
Camel Spin: At the end of Kotone’s Action, she gains a shield equal to 15% of her Attack. |
Rank 2 |
Ice Princess: Increases Resonance damage based on Foe’s missing HP (up to a 50% cap). |
Rank 3 |
Heart of Ice: Increases the Skill levels of Frost Lily and Ice Storm by 2. |
Rank 4 |
Resilience: Increases Highlight Attack Damage by 50%. |
Rank 5 |
Axel Jump: Increases the Skill levels of Durandal of Ice and Thief Tactics by 2. |
Rank 6 |
Opening Ceremony: At the start of the battle, Mont gains 4 Ice Crystal stacks. Increases the maximum number of Ice Crystal stacks up to 15. |
Prioritize maximizing Durandal of Ice and Winter Storm, since they’re the ideal combo for maximum damage output. The second priority is Ice Lilly, and finally, Thief Tactics. Durandal of Ice is an attack that needs to be timed perfectly, when Kotone is at the pinnacle of her power while Parhelion is active. She can land criticals that scale from 15k to 70k depending on the enemy’s HP %, and the buffs active in Kotone at the moment.
The ideal partner for Kotone is Leon (Leo Kamiyama), since he’s an uber-buffer that can maximize any Phantom Thief damage in only 2 turns, more or less, the same number of Actions that it takes Kotone to reach the Parhelion state.

Best Mont Weapons in Persona 5 The Phantom X
Mont specializes in the use of fencing sabers, and there are currently two weapons that are highly optimized for her:
Queen of Winter, which increases critical damage by 36.6%, and reduces the activation stack number of Blade Dancer to 8 Ice Crystals. It also increases the Durandal of Ice damage when Mont reaches 8 Ice Crystal stacks. This doesn’t activate Parhelion, only offers an extra damage buff to her nuke skill. Overall, it is the best weapon she can have, but of course, players will have to spend lots of Platinum Milicoin to draw it from the Weapon Gacha.
Edelweiss is the next best option and a cheaper one, since it can be purchased in the Airsoft Store for Gecko Coins. This weapon increases Attack by 12.0%, and each time Kotone gains Ice Crystal stacks, it increases Ice damage by 2.4% for 1 turn. Stacks up to 10 times, meaning that if Kotone can generate 10 Ice Crystals in her first Action, she will have an extra 24% Damage buff to blast opponents into ice shards. This weapon is most effective when Mont is placed on the 4th Turn Order, since it gives her a chance to gain extra Ice Crystals with each Ally Action before she can act.
Make sure to reach Parhelion before launching Durandal of Ice, that way Mont will land a guaranteed Critical, buffed by her passives, and deal increased damage the more the Foe is hurt.
Best Mont Revelations Cards
Growth & Luxury: The combination of Luxury (also called Opulence for some translation reasons) and Growth Revelation cards is a decent way to empower Mont’s Ice damage to the maximum. While the Set effects increase Ice Damage by 10% and Resonance damage by 40%, the combo effect with the Luxury Mind Card grants a stackable 10% self-buff to Ice Damage each time Resonance is activated. It can stack up to 30%, granting even more damage to Mont, and that means a deadlier Durandal of Ice skillshot.
Meditation & Luxury: Has a similar effect to that of Growth & Luxury, only that instead of buffing Mont’s overall Ice Damage, it increases Critical damage by 50% when activating Resonance. And since Resonance is a guaranteed Critical (which is already empowered by Mont’s Awareness and Persona passives) it deals devastating damage.
Power & Luxury: A good option considering that most skills stack on overall Damage and not Elemental Damage (those bonuses are applied over the base Attack Damage when using the skills). Power Revelations increase Damage by 12%, and Mont will also receive a permanent (lasts until the end of battle) buff of 10% to her Attack every 6 Turns. This can stack up to 30%. It also increases the maximum amount of Combat Buffs Mont can receive by 5, and that means more damage (especially if Leo is accompanying her).
Obtain more Revelation Cards by participating in Realm of Repression Battles. Cards can also be obtained at random from the Exchange Shop.
Best Mont Team Composition in P5X
Mont is an Assassin, and she specializes in dealing tons of damage while heavily buffed by her own mechanics. But her damage output can be further improved by letting her act last (or 3rd), and allowing other buffers to support her entirely. The best team composition to achieve this is Wonder with Ice damage-boosting Personas (like Lilim, King Frost, Genbu, Byakko, or Queen Mabb), Leo Kamiyama as first supporter, and Moko (Tomoko Noge) as second supporter.
Starting the battle by buffing Kotone with Justice Barrier (Leon), then Cheering You On (Moko), and finally, getting Kotone to reach Parhelion by using Winter Storm. If done correctly, the next turn will start with Leon using Ultima Booster on Mont, and then another Cheering You On to maximize Kotone’s damage. With Parhelion active, launch a Durandal of Ice on an enemy to destroy the completely.
Players can also opt to use Haruna of Lufel, since both of them also have powerful support buffs. Haruna is one of the top-tier Strategists in the game, with tons of powerful buffs like Courageous Campaign, which increases the whole Party’s Attack. Another important element of every composition is the Elucidator, in this case, Okyann is the ideal candidate to support Mont in her attacker role, granting Kotone and Terpsichore a tremendous Attack Buff every 6 rounds, which pairs up nicely with the Power & Luxury Revelation Card Combo.
