Pokémon Go’s “High Zaptitude” event runs from Jan. 13-18 and celebrates electric-type Pokémon, specifically adding shiny Tadbulb to the game.
This event features a global challenge, encouraging players to get out there and “explore” (walk around). Once players reach a global goal, certain bonuses will unlock. At level one, we’ll get doubled XP from catching Pokémon, and at level two, Wattrel will make its debut both in the wild and in event Field Research. At level three, there’ll be doubled XP and Stardust for hatching Pokémon.

For $1.99, you can buy this research that gives a lot of Tadbulb encounters and also reduces your hatch distance by half during the event period. It’s worth it for the bonus and Incubators, but I would only recommend buying this if you are shiny hunting Tadbulb. You can see the steps below.

Spinning a PokéStop during the event period may yield one of these tasks:
- Catch 5 Pokémon (Chinchou, Tynamo, or Helioptile encounter)
- Catch 15 Pokémon (Emolga, Yamper, or Tadbulb encounter)
Once players complete the second global challenge, a Field Research that rewards Wattrel will be added.
Pokémon Go ‘High Zaptitude’ event boosted spawns
These Pokémon will spawn more frequently during the event period, according to Niantic’s blog post:

Wattrel will begin spawning once the second global challenge is completed, as well.
Pokémon Go ‘High Zaptitude’ event egg hatches
These Pokémon have a chance to hatch from any 2 km eggs obtained during the event:
- Pichu
- Elekid
- Toxel
- Tadbulb*
*These Pokémon have an “increased chance” of being hatched shiny.
