Pokemon GO Leak Reveals Mimikyu Debut

Pokemon GO Leak Reveals Mimikyu Debut

Mimikyu is finally joining Pokemon GO, according to newly datamined information leaked from the game. While not everything has been revealed just yet, Pokemon GO trainers can expect to find Mimikyu as part of the game’s free GO Pass.

Gamers have been asking for Pokemon GO to add Mimikyu for a long time. The popular Pokemon has fans all over the world, but has been missing from the game despite being introduced to the main series 10 years ago. It seems that the tenth anniversary of Pokemon GO and Gen 7’s releases will finally see one of the last Pokemon of the generation join the game, though.

Pokemon GO is gearing up for its next event, A Shockingly Good Time, and while not previously announced, Mimikyu will finally be added to the game. Pokemon GO already announced that A Shockingly Good Time will include opportunities to encounter Pokemon like Pikachu, Magnemite, and Pawmi, among other electric-type Pokemon. However, a new look into the game’s data has revealed that Mimikyu will also be in the mix. The data indicates that an encounter with Mimikyu will be a reward for level 30 and 60 in the Pokemon GO Pass associated with the event.

While not official, it’s possible that there may also be other opportunities for Mimikyu here. Players have suspected that the announcement of Pikachu being the Spotlight Hour Pokemon for April 1 could be hiding a secret Mimikyu. Given that April 1 is April Fools’ Day, it would make considerable sense for Mimikyu, who regularly disguises itself as Pikachu, to pop up on that day in Pikachu’s place. The GO Pass listing for Mimikyu notably refers to it as “Mimikyu (Mimikyu_Disguised),” perhaps indicating that it might first look like a standard Pikachu when encountered. However, this isn’t confirmed as of publication time.

Mimikyu’s addition to Pokemon GO will likely be celebrated by a lot of fans, as it marks one of the last Gen 7 Pokemon remaining to be added to the mobile game. By the end of 2025, the only Pokemon from Gen 7 that hadn’t joined Pokemon GO yet were Magearna, Minior, Mimikyu, Pyukumuku, Silvally, Type: Null, Wishiwashi, and Zeraora. While all of these Pokemon are still awaiting their Pokemon GO debuts, Zeraora has also been announced as arriving in the game in the future. Players can expect Zeraora to be added to Pokemon GO during the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest in Tokyo, which will be held on May 29. The remaining Gen 7 Pokemon have yet to be announced.

Pokemon GO has a difficult path when it comes to introducing new Pokemon, as it has to dripfeed them at a pace that keeps players satisfied without running out of Pokemon to add. With that said, the Gen 7 Pokemon aren’t the oldest missing from the mobile game. Three Gen 4 Pokemon, namely Manaphy, Phione, and Arceus are missing from Pokemon GO to this day. While there are considerably more Gen 8 and 9 Pokemon left to be added, some players are frustrated with waiting, considering that the generation began 10 years prior to the release of Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are now celebrating their 20th anniversaries.

With that said, this isn’t the only leak that Pokemon GO has recently seen. A new device called the Explorer Gadget is reportedly now in the code, which functions similarly to a Pokemon GO Plus+ device, without the need for an external physical item. Allegedly, the Explorer Gadget will let players automatically spin PokeStops and throw PokeBalls at Pokemon they come across, even while the game is closed. However, it will reportedly be limited to one use per day, and there’s no release date yet announced for the new feature.
