Pokémon Go Pikipek Community Day event guide

Pokémon Go is having a Pikipek Community Day event on Sunday, Nov. 30 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.

As expected with a Community Day event, Pikipek will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.

How do I catch a shiny Pikipek?

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Pikipek to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Pikipek you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

If you evolve Trumbeak into Toucannon from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Beak Blast.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Beak Blast. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

Beak Blast actually is pretty strong, making Toucannon a good flying-type attacker for gyms and raids. There are a lot of rarer Pokémon that are stronger than it (like Mega Rayquaza, of course), but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to grab a high IV one and level it up during this event. Set it up with Peck and Beak Blast for success.

This legacy move is also an improvement for PvP, but some experts on The Silph Road subreddit note that Toucannon still may be too fragile for this to improve its performance too much. You can give it a go with Peck alongside Drill Peck and Beak Blast.

The following bonuses will be active during Pikipek Community Day:

  • Tripled XP for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules last one hour
  • Pikipek special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Pikipek.

If you can Mega Evolve Charizard Y, Pidgeot, Kangaskhan, Aerodactyl, Salamence, Rayquaza, Lopunny, or Audino, you’ll score additional Pikipek Candy per catch.

As part of one of the newer Community Day perks, Pikipek will also continue to spawn from Lure Modules set after the event ends, until 9 p.m. in your local time. These will retain their higher shiny rate and may have a special background.
