Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Shining Revelry introduced a reworked Charizard ex with an ability that seemed daunting in theory but has fallen short in practice. The new A2b 010 Charizard ex features a move called Stoke, which generates three Fire-type Energies. However, the drawback is that Stoke counts as an attack, meaning each use costs a turn without dealing any damage.

TCG Pocket players are currently divided on the viability of the new Charizard ex. Some see it as a strong choice for a ramp strategy, while others argue that skipping a turn for three Energies isn’t a worthwhile tradeoff. Regardless of the debate, we’ve analyzed the current metagame to determine the best deck shell for Shining Revelry’s Charizard ex, and the most effective setup appears to be a refined build featuring Moltres ex.

How to Counter Charizard ex (A2b 010)
Two decks have dominated the new Charizard ex lineups: the 18-Trainer Articuno ex setup and the Gallade ex & Hitmonlee counter deck. The former has a win rate of over 60% against Charizard ex (A2b), while the latter has an even more impressive win rate, currently sitting at 70%.
Is Shining Revelry’s Charizard ex Better?
In terms of metagame performance, the new Charizard ex from the Shining Revelry set hasn’t shown a significant improvement over its Genetic Apex counterpart. While the reworked card features an Energy-generating move, its reduced damage and turn-skipping move offsets this advantage, keeping its overall performance on par with the older version.
However, it’s too early to label Charizard ex (A2b) as a winner or loser of the new set. The meta usually settles a week or two after each expansion, but that hasn’t happened yet. So far, it seems the new Charmander and Charmeleon from Charizard ex’s evolution line have a better chance of becoming meta, as they can be easily integrated into standard Genetic Apex Charizard ex decks.
