Pokemon Winds and Waves Will Have a Leveled Playing Field After FireRed and LeafGreen, Legends: Z-A

Pokemon Winds and Waves Will Have a Leveled Playing Field After FireRed and LeafGreen, Legends: Z-A

Pokemon Winds and Waves will be the next mainline title for the series, and despite there only being a teaser trailer for the Gen 10 games, they have already broken a huge trend by coming out in 2027, between four and a half and five years after Gen 9. This is a big deal because a huge part of the monster-collecting series is to add new Pokemon and ways to play the games, so it’s interesting that the last new critters were added with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in 2022. Sure, Pokemon Legends: Z-A added new Mega Evolutions, but it’s not the same thing as new Pokemon.

This is not necessarily a bad thing for collectors, though, as it means that they either have more time to get all existing Pokemon in one place or that they will have an edge when the new generation comes, if not both. This is particularly relevant now because Pokemon Legends: Z-A first and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen later started accounting for lots of missing Legendary and Mythical Pokemon with no way to get them natively on Switch or Switch 2. As such, Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ 2027 release means that fans should have access to most of these Pokemon by then, and that’s better than what Gen 8 and 9 did.

Pokemon Gen 10 Leaks Box Legendary Details

Details about what Pokemon has planned for Gen 10’s box art Legendary monsters surface online as part of a large swath of leaked information.

Every Legendary and Mythical Pokemon in Legends: Z-A, FireRed and LeafGreen (And Can They Be Shiny)

One could argue that Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s Dynamax Adventure is peak content for the series because it allows players to hunt for shiny Legendaries as well as catch up (pun intended) with some of the rarest critters in the series up to that point. And this is still very much true, but it’s also something that happened pretty late in the games’ lifespan. Gen 9 did something similar with several returning Legendaries in The Indigo Disk DLC, but it wasn’t met with much excitement due to all these Pokemon being shiny-locked. Luckily, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are fixing this and helping out even more.

Returning Legendary and Mythical Pokemon in Switch Games

On top of that, Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on Switch and Switch 2 are more a matter of when than if because they were datamined as ports with the release of FireRed and LeafGreen. This will most likely make other Pokemon natively available, like Registeel, Regice, and Regirock. Likewise, Jirachi could be added too, though there is still a way to get it in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl alongside Manaphy (and thus Phione).

Similarly, various games have added the remaining missing Legendaries and Mythicals to the roster on Switch over the years. For example, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players can get Arceus itself, while also being able to collect all Legendaries and Mythicals from Gen 4, as well as some others, like the Weather Trio from Gen 5, with the addition of Enamorus. The remaining Legendary Gen 5 Pokemon are available in Scarlet and Violet, as well as the Legendaries from Gen 7.

While some of the Pokemon in FireRed and LeafGreen‘s Pokedex were made available before, namely in Gen 9, the probable return of Mew and Celebi will make the Switch era amazing for collectors ahead of Pokemon Winds and Waves. Even then, it’s not even guaranteed that the next set of VGC rules will be native to Gen 10, and instead, this might all play out in Pokemon Champions. Whatever the outcome, though, the Switch games have added most missing Pokemon from the franchise’s past, and this will be a big plus when Gen 10 officially starts.
