A Pokemon Pokopia player has managed to remove the ocean from the Nintendo Switch 2 game after several hours of time and effort. A sandbox game, Pokemon Pokopia allows players to rebuild a world where humans and Pokemon have both gone missing. The game’s customization features allow players a lot of freedom to adapt and change that world to their specific needs.
Since the game’s launch just a few weeks ago, Pokopia has quickly become a spotlight for the passion and dedication of Pokemon fans. Some players have even built giant Pokemon statues in Pokopia, with the incredible results shared on social media. Players don’t have to be the most creative builders to get enjoyment out of the game, as there are many people who just seem to be enjoying the storyline and interactions with various Pokemon.
Pokopia Totally Flips the Script on Longtime Fans of the Franchise
Fans have discovered that Pokemon Pokopia features a major role reversal from mainline entries in the series like FireRed and LeafGreen.
Eliminating the Oceans of Pokemon Pokopia
In a post on Reddit, user Shadowspartan110 revealed that they managed to remove the ocean from the game’s map. While the poster referred to it as an April Fools’ Day prank, the ocean seems to be completely gone, replaced instead by a bunch of new space. That appears to be the purpose behind the time-consuming experiment: Shadowspartan110 says that they were looking for more space to experiment and create big builds. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to provide the exact amount of time it took to complete the task, only noting that they worked on it for “about 2 weeks,” with the majority of the effort happening on the weekends, and less time spent during the week.

While many Reddit users have praised Shadowspartan110’s dedication, others noted the similarity of the poster’s actions to the narrative in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. The plot of the third Pokemon generation revolves around Team Magma trying to dry up the oceans to expand the world’s available land by using the power of the Legendary Pokemon Groudon. Meanwhile, Team Aqua has a similar plot as they seek to flood the Earth using the powers of Kyogre. It’s an apt comparison, and it’s hilarious to see the plot of a group of antagonists actually benefiting a player in Pokemon Pokopia.
Similar to an evil plot or not, it’s easy to see how extra space could benefit a lot of Pokopia players. Just having the extra room to try out different experiments would be hugely beneficial, even if it might take a long time to get to that point. Experimenting with a new build can be intimidating in sandbox games, so having more room that’s essentially free from consequences could be a very good thing. It might inspire players to try their hand at building Ash Ketchum’s house in Pokopia, or any other familiar buildings from the Pokemon franchise. Players will have to judge for themselves if this kind of effort is worth it, but for anyone desperate for more space, this build from Shadowspartan110 proves that it’s an option worth exploring.
The fact that the developers at Koei Tecmo and Game Freak made it possible to fill up Pokopia‘s oceans is a testament to the freedom the game offers players. Not all sandbox games have the same degree of customization, but there are a lot of ways for players to stretch their creative muscles in Pokopia. The opportunities are vast, and it’s likely more fantastic builds will be shared as players discover more ways they can alter the world to best suit their needs. It’s possible players might get even more opportunities to showcase their strengths if the game ends up getting DLC, but nothing has been announced in terms of additional content. It wouldn’t be surprising, though, given what a success Pokopia has been so far on Nintendo Switch 2.
