Pragmata still exists and Capcom say the sci-fi action game is coming in 2026 for real this time

Sci-fi action game Pragmata will be coming out 2026, say developers Capcom during this evening’s PlayStation showcase. The trailer seemingly contains a stark warning for those using generative AI: keep doing so and eventually you’ll have to befriend a creepy cyborg little girl in order to fight back against a horde of futurebots that want to murder you for some reason. Think about it, next time you’re using ChatGPT to do your homework.

You’ll find the new trailer below.

Pragmata seems to contain several recent science-horror clichés – or at least it feels that way, given your little girl sidekick Diana is extremely evocative of M3GAN. Luckily it’s also paired with several videogame clichés, as the trailer shows you sidestepping attacking robots, electrocuting them to freeze them in place, and shooting them in the head for extra damage.

In fairness, Pragmata was announced long before M3GAN in 2020 via a trailer that in no way explained what the game actually was. Since then it has been delayed twice. The developers first set a 2023 release, then wiped out any exact date of a release altogether. It’s been so long since we’d heard anything about it that some had begun to speculate that it had been cancelled. There’s perhaps a reference to that fear in the trailer, when the 2026 release window is paired with a note saying simply, “It’s real”.

Capcom have a great hit rate in recent years, so I’m happy to give them the benefit of the doubt and put my cyncism aside for now. I’m also happy that it’s coming to PC via Steam at the same time as its console release.
