It’s almost here! After the release date was postponed (a couple of times), AC Shadows will finally be released on March 20. Steam Deck users know how uncertain the status of Assassin’s Creed Shadows was. However, seemingly at the last moment, this game received the Deck Verified status. As many users know, that doesn’t always mean that a game runs smoothly, there have been some examples that baffled the community.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Runs Smoothly
Well, as it turns out, several sources confirmed that the AC Shadows actually deserved the Verified status! We were very glad to learn that users who had a chance to test the game on their Steam Decks ahead of the release all had positive experiences.
We’ve seen several videos with and without FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), and truth be told, it seems that the game holds up pretty well in both cases. In the video by OPTIMIZED GAMER, you can see by yourself how the gameplay looks without FSR.
PC Guide also tested the game with FSR on and FSR off, and they came to a similar conclusion. With FSR on, they managed to hold 35-30 FPS, while with FSR off, the game felt “choppier” and stayed at around 30 FPS. They recommended that users should keep the FSR on for a better experience.
Steam Deck Users Praise Ubisoft
Many Steam Deck users were thrilled to learn that they’d be able to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows the moment it dropped. Players went on to praise Ubisoft (who would’ve guessed?) for optimizing the game.
One user, dromosus, noted: “Absolutely mental that Ubisoft were saying that this wouldn‘t be playable on deck not too long ago. Then it gets verified at the last minute and now it’s playing at a pretty steady 30 without FSR. Wasn’t expecting that at all”.
Other users chirped in with praise, and some, like GuerrillaApe, admitted to changing their minds and maybe even getting the game. This player stated: “Haven’t played AC since Black Flag. Maybe it’s been enough of a break to play another AC game”.
So, get your Steam Deck ready! Assassin’s Creed Shadows drops on March 20, and it truly looks like it will be lots of fun. We can’t wait to test it out but given the reports, it’ll quickly become a fan-favorite.
