Why Is Sony Increasing PS Plus Prices in Latin America?

Sony cited unfavorable changes in the “global market conditions” as the chief reason for the upcoming price adjustments. The company said that the new prices will allow it to continue offering high-quality games and compelling perks to subscribers. This is pretty much the exact same reasoning given for the September 2023 PS Plus price hike—word for word.

Sony’s recent PS Plus price increases have made the company a lot of money. In November 2024, the group reported an 18% year-on-year increase in PS Plus earnings. However, that very same financial report also saw the company put an end to the practice of providing subscriber count updates to investors, suggesting that the recent PS Plus price hikes have either slowed down the growth of the service or even reduced its overall number of members.
