PSA: EA has already confirmed 4 games it’s shutting down this year, and 3 are on the chopping block for January

EA has confirmed that it is shutting down at least four games in 2026 so far, but if previous years are any indication, many more titles will be on the chopping block. EA shuts down games on a fairly consistent basis, largely thanks to the company’s lineup of sports games. As licenses expire, EA delists and shutters the servers for its sports and racing game titles, though other games from the company are occasionally shut down as well.

EA shut down a total of 23 games in 2025, ranging from fan-favorite games like The Simpsons: Tapped Out to beloved sports titles like NCAA Football 14. EA has slowly been revealing games it will be shutting down in 2026, with three confirmed for January and another confirmed for March so far.

Is EA’s Anthem Worth a Playthrough Before Its Looming Shutdown?

As the countdown ticks toward Anthem’s final day, a fading world of steel and sky may yet hold secrets that only its closing moments can reveal.

On January 12, EA will be shutting down Anthem‘s servers. Then, on January 24, The Sims Mobile will be shutting down. The last EA game shutting down in January is NBA Live 19, which will have its online services shuttered on January 30. Finally, EA has confirmed that Real Racing 3, the popular mobile racing game with over a decade of history, will be shutting down forever on March 19.

List of EA Games Shutting Down in 2026 (So Far)

  • Anthem – January 12
  • The Sims Mobile – January 24
  • NBA Live 19 – January 30
  • Real Racing 3 – March 19

When it comes to the EA games shutting down in 2026, there’s quite a bit of variety. Anthem was BioWare’s attempt at a live-service shooter game that unfortunately flopped right out of the gate. There were some attempts to revive Anthem, but larger plans were scrapped, and now the game is on death’s door. The Sims Mobile, meanwhile, is exactly as its name implies — it’s a mobile version of The Sims. While it’s sad that The Sims Mobile is shutting down, the bright side is that it will remain playable offline, which isn’t always true when EA mobile games are shut down.

NBA Live 19 is the last basketball game made by EA, and so it shutting down means no EA basketball games will be playable online. There have been conflicting reports about a potential EA college basketball game, but if such a project exists, it would likely be years out anyway. The latest news on that front is that EA is not doing a college basketball game at all since 2K has secured the licenses for top schools for its college basketball game, but fans will have to wait and see on that front.

Real Racing 3 may be the shutdown that stings the most. Real Racing 3 is over a decade old at this point and has dedicated fans that have enjoyed playing the game for years. It shutting down is going to be devastating for those individuals, but hopefully they can get their fill between now and when the game shuts down on March 19.

EA is Removing a Game from EA Play in 2026

Players tackling each other in Madden NFL 24

Besides the four games that it is shutting down, EA has also confirmed that it is removing Madden NFL 24 from the EA Play lineup this year. Madden NFL 24 will leave EA Play Pro and EA Play List on February 17, which is usually the first step in an eventual shutdown. Eventually, fans can expect Madden NFL 24 to be delisted, and then finally shut down, though a specific date for when that will happen has yet to be announced.
