“Ready to Spread Managed Democracy” New Helldivers 2 Players Incoming as Sony Lifted the Ban on Some Regions

Something is finally happening! Devoted Helldivers 2 players have noticed that Sony has lifted the controversial ban on more than 40 regions. Helldivers worldwide hope that this was just a start and that the regions still under the ban will soon be able to join the Second Galactic War.

What Is the Ban and How Did It Affect Helldivers 2 Players?

If you’re new to the game, you probably aren’t aware of the mess and controversy that has been going on for months. So, let’s get you up to speed. In early May, it was announced that a Play Station Network account was mandatory to keep playing the game.

However, some regions didn’t (and still don’t) have PSN support, so the players couldn’t create accounts, thus they were left behind. This didn’t sit well with Helldivers, so they review-bombed the game on Steam. The requirement was lifted, but the ban on certain regions remained, 177 regions, to be exact. If you’ve seen posts about the review-bomb cape, it was meant to celebrate this partial victory.

What does the ban consist of? Well, the players in unsupported regions who had already purchased the game could continue playing it, but they didn’t (and still don’t) have access to the Steam Store. As for players who hadn’t bought the game before the whole controversy, well, they couldn’t do so after the fact.

Sony Lifted the Ban on Some Regions

On January 21, a change was made to the list of purchase-restricted regions. More than 40 regions were removed from the list, leaving around 130 regions still locked out. Although that’s a strong start, many players are still left out.

Steamdb provided the details. If you are in one of these regions, you can now purchase Helldivers 2: Anguilla, Aruba, Aland Islands, Saint Barthélemy, Bermuda, Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba, Bouvet Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Cook Islands, Curaçao, Christmas Island, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Faroe Islands, French Guiana, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guadeloupe, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Heard and Mc Donald Islands, Isle of Man, British Indian Ocean Territory, Jersey, Cayman Islands, Macau, Martinique, Montserrat, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Niue, French Polynesia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Pitcairn, Réunion, Saint Helena, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, Sint Maarten (Dutch part), Turks and Caicos Islands, French Southern Territories, Tokelau, British Virgin Islands, Wallis and Futuna, and Mayotte.

Hlldivers 2 players very enthusiastically took the news of Sony lifting the ban on some countries. We’ve said this before, and we’ll gladly say it again, the amazing community is what makes Helldivers 2 great. Thousands of active players welcomed the new recruits and invited them to fight side by side.

As for the players that are still in the restricted regions, well, hang in there. Hopefully, this is just the beginning and you’ll soon be able to join us. We’re looking forward to spreading Managed Democracy with you. For Liberty and Super Earth.
