Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights to the Street Fighter franchise from Capcom in April 2023. Following the acquisition, Legendary announced a new live-action adaptation. Directors Danny and Michael Philippou were initially attached to helm the film, but the duo departed from the project in June 2024. Street Fighter Live-Action Movie Eyeing Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo & More

The next live-action Street Fighter movie is reportedly eyeing some popular actors to join the film.

Entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider claimed in the recent issue of his newsletter, The InSneider, that Fallout star Walton Goggins is close to signing a deal to play a major character in the anticipated Street Fighter movie. Goggins was reportedly being eyed to play M. Bison, the main antagonist in the movie. M. Bison is a dictator, warlord, and megalomaniac who aims to conquer the world. He orchestrates tournaments for recruitment and mind control. In many adaptations of the franchise, M. Bison is portrayed as the ultimate evil because he represents corruption, abuse of power, and manipulation to get whatever he wants. Due to his personality, he clashes with Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile, and Charlie Nash. The same character was portrayed by Raúl Juliá in the 1994 movie Street Fighter, which also starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Damian Chapa, Byron Mann, Ming-Na Wen, and Andrew Bryniarski.

Aside from Goggins’ rumored casting, Sneider also claimed that Orville Peck was in talks to portray Vega while Eric André was being eyed to play the windbag announcer. The latter’s casting was reportedly not surprising since André worked with Sakurai in Netflix’s comedy Bad Trip. He also mentioned Roman Reigns and Noah Centineo, who were among the four names mentioned in reports last month to join the film. Sources told Deadline that Centineo, Reigns, Jason Momoa, and Andrew Koji were being considered for the movie. There was no detail on what role the four actors would portray in the martial arts movie. However, this time, Sneider claimed that Centineo would play Ken Masters, Ryu’s frenemy. Meanwhile, Reigns will reportedly portray Akuma, the younger brother of Gouken. There was no mention of Momoa and Koji’s roles in the movie.

Sneider’s report is not official, so one should still take it with a grain of salt. However, it’s exciting to have Goggins play the big bad in the Street Fighter movie. The Fallout star could bring gravitas and redefine the character into a more nuanced and psychological villain. He could elevate Bison to a darkly charismatic cult-like leader. Also, Goggins is a versatile actor and has proven his ability to deliver a menacing, charismatic, controlling, and unpredictable character. He perfected his role, Boyd Crowder, in the TV show Justified. Boyd is a manipulative, highly intelligent, and philosophically inclined antagonist. Also, his role in Fallout, Ghoul, a ruthless survivor and morally complex antihero, somewhat mirrors a reimagined Bison in a post-apocalyptic tone. So, there’s no doubt that Goggins is a perfect choice for the role. As for the other rumored casts and their rumored roles, we definitely approved of Centineo as Ken Masters. There’s no official release date for Street Fighter after Sony removed it from its theatrical release calendar. The film was initially set for release on March 20, 2026.
