Ryan Hurst Reacts To Being Cast As Kratos In God Of War TV Series

Ryan Hurst was just recently announced as the actor who will play Kratos in the upcoming God of War live-action TV series. The Sons of Anarchy actor has now reacted to the announcement, saying he feels “grateful to pick up the axe.”

Posting on Instagram, Hurst wrote, “Used to play as him. Now I get to be him.”

He added: “Grateful to pick up the axe, and honored by the fans who made this story legendary.”

Hurst is no stranger to the world of God of War, as he played Thor in God of War Ragnarok. The TV series is expected to follow the events of 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok, featuring the father-and-son story between Kratos and Atreus. It remains to be seen who may play Atreus, or any of the other roles, but with the show reportedly set to begin filming in Vancouver this March, further casting announcements and other details may come soon.

As announced previously, Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore is the showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the God of War show. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are producing the series, alongside PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

Frederick E.O. Toye (The Boys, Fallout) is directing the first two episodes. There is no release date yet, but the series will air on Prime Video. The streamer is also behind the upcoming Tomb Raider live-action TV show starring Sophie Turner.

As for the God of War game series, it is expected to continue, but no new games have been announced.
