Some heroes have so much potential, but they just don’t deliver. With some Heroes, that happens occasionally, with others, it happens constantly. That’s why the Marvel Rivals community agreed that Black Widow was the weakest Hero in the current roster.
Why Black Widow?
Many players expected Black Widow to be overpowered. That’d probably be the case if she had all the abilities that she’s usually associated with. The devs were most likely aware of that when they created her.
The official description reads: “Natasha Romanova is the world’s most elite spy in any era. Her mastery of the sniper rifle eliminates targets from afar, while her shock batons neutralize close-range threats. Black Widow is locked, loaded, and ready to deliver a fatal bite”.
However, the devs may have gone too far with balancing. Black Widow has continuously ranked high on “Heroes to avoid” lists. Some players are still trying to main her, but they are slowly giving up.
Andross_Darkheart noted: “Black Widow seems to be in a weird spot. She is too weak, but people worry she might be too good if she becomes a legit sniper”. This seems to be a common stance, as she should excel at something.
Another player, Darkcasfire, explained: “Honestly I don’t get why they tried to make her a sniper and melee duelist. Like that’s literally opposing roles. And even then the only sniper part is the gun, and the only melee part is a single ability. And the ult? Nothing to do with the kit again”.
Marvel Rivals Players Suggest What Would Make Black Widow More Playable
Black Widow could easily become a fan favorite with some adjustments. Players agreed that something needed to change, as she wasn’t a viable Hero. Sure, with a lot of dedication and practice, one could find a way to make her invaluable, but that much work takes away from the fun.
Substantial-Pack-105 suggested: “They can boost her melee abilities so she’s a viable melee fighter who can also pop off shots when she needs to. That fits better with how she normally operates in the comics / MCU anyway”.
Another player, Kialand, added: “If her kick had a shorter cooldown, she would be far more viable than she currently is. People seriously underestimate the power of her reel-in follow-up. It stuns the target, pulls them in, and stops them in place for enough time for her to no-scope a guaranteed headshot”.
Of course, some players call for a total rework of Black Widow. We don’t think that’s necessary, she just needs a small buff, and she will rule the game. The devs have been delivering lately, so we hope they are at least considering some changes for Black Widow. In the meantime, try out some other Heroes, and enjoy the game.
