The first Slay the Spire game had an astoundingly active mod community over its lifetime. Quality-of-life adjustments, new playable characters, separate game modes, and even visual overhauls were all available to players, allowing them to customize their play experience in ways the base game could not.
Slay the Spire 2: Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Become a master of the Spire with these helpful suggestions.
It should come as no surprise, then, that Slay the Spire 2 is shaping up to have an active mod community of its own. Despite being in early access for only a short time, the Nexus Mods page already has over 150 mods, and it’s growing. Mods can be a great way to test out the limits and usefulness of cards, fix lingering issues, and otherwise improve the moment-to-moment gameplay of Slay the Spire 2, even in its early access state. Whether you’re looking to make things easier or you just want to test the limits of what you can do, these mods offer some great gameplay enhancements.

Please be careful when installing mods! You’ll need to verify the source to ensure they are a trusted mod maker. Mods can break your game and saves if you’re not careful, so be sure to look at all compatibility issues. Additionally, as the game is in early access, changes will happen rapidly that may cause the mods and Slay the Spire 2 to stop working at any time.
Sites like Nexus Mods and GGMods are the best places to search for mods.
ModConfig
The Framework for Easy Mod Configuration
At its core, ModConfig by PiPiFanDev is the universal mod configuration framework for Slay the Spire 2, injecting a “mods” tab into the game settings screen. This mod is highly recommended for many mods on Nexus Mods, at least for full functionality. As other mods are installed, their config entries are added to the “mods” tab, allowing for full configuration control of each from the in-game menu, as long as the other mods support ModsConfig, that is.
While it is a simple tool with no gameplay alterations of its own, ModConfig is a great way to manage your own mod settings and preferences on the fly. It is especially useful if you’re running multiple other mods at once, due to its static placement for all mod configuration settings.
BetterSpire2
Extensive Quality-of-Life Adjustments
BetterSpire2 is a lightweight quality-of-life mod by JDR that doesn’t significantly alter the way the game is played, but does make the playing experience a bit smoother. While most mods are currently single-player only, BetterSpire2 has the benefit of being multiplayer safe, and it has two versions: full and lite. The full version includes the ability to hold R to restart a run from the beginning, double-tap R to reload the latest save and start the fight over, kick players from a multiplayer session, difficulty scaling options, and auto-confirm discard/retain selections.
Both versions feature an incoming damage counter that automatically calculates the damage you’ll take after blocks and damage reduction, multi-hit totals, expected HP to see your HP after damage is calculated, a teammate hand viewer, a splash screen skip, the ability to hide multiplayer map drawings, and instant fast mode, which is a faster animation speed.
These settings can be individually toggled from an in-game menu, so you can tailor your playing experience more fully to your needs. I find the damage calculation to be the most useful for single-player, and sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming to calculate all the incoming and outgoing damage between summons, relic modifiers, and any block generation you might have. It just simplifies things a bit, so you can focus on the strategy aspect over the calculations needed to play optimally. The multiplayer options are a nice addition as well, as the base game doesn’t include any way to remove players or view their hands to help coordinate strategies.
UnifiedSavePath
Keeps All of Your Saves in One Place
Under normal circumstances, Slay the Spire 2 modded saves are placed into a separate directory, meaning that any progress you make in the game using mods does not carry over to any unmodded save file you might have. Using UnifiedSavePath by Jiesi Luo alleviates this issue by merging both save paths. All character unlocks, epoch progress, and run history are shared across both modded and unmodded saves.
Unified save path does not otherwise alter the gameplay experience, and no other content is modified in the process of installing it; you just get a single location set for all of your files.
Route Suggest
Helps Guide Your Journey Up the Spire
Ever feel like you can’t decide which path to take during a run? Route Suggest by Jiajie Chen might just be the tool you’re looking for! It suggests the optimal path on the map and highlights it, showing you the best course of action based on your preferences. In total, there are two types of path suggestions: safe and aggressive. The safe path minimizes encounters and prioritizes safety by putting an emphasis on rest sites, treasure rooms, and shops. By contrast, the aggressive path suggestion prioritizes monsters, elites, and unknown rooms, ensuring you have many opportunities for card rewards along the way.
While you can technically use the mod without it, ModConfig is recommended in tandem with Route Suggest, as this allows the mod to appear in the game’s mod menu for easy reference and configuration. Without it, you’ll need to edit the JSON configuration file manually. Those configuration settings allow you to change the color of the presented pathways and change the scoring weight of individual room types, granting you a more customizable experience.

QuickRestart
Restart Fights or Events Quickly
Another handy mod by Jiesi Luo, QuickRestart, is as simple as it sounds. With the press of a single button (F5), the current event or battle is started from the beginning, restoring your deck, HP, and relics to their state when you entered the room. Using it is smooth in practice as well, with a simple fade-to-black screen transition as you reload your file.
Thanks to its use of Slay the Spire 2’s own native auto-save system, there’s no additional risk of save file corruption, though the loader only works while a run is active — it won’t work while you are in menus or on the map screen. There are no compatibility issues with any other mods, though the mod maker does specifically suggest UnifiedSavePath to ensure modded save files are appropriately accounted for.
This is just a great time-saver, as it cuts out the save & quit to continue button presses that normally accompany restarting a room.
Remove Multiplayer Player Limit
Play the Game With Up To 16 Friends
Slay the Spire 2‘s inclusion of a multiplayer mode is perhaps the biggest change from the first game, but its four-player limit may feel restrictive to players with a large contingent of friends who also play the game. That’s where Remove Multiplayer Player Limit by Rain_G comes in. Using this mod, a single multiplayer lobby can accommodate up to 16 players, though lobbies with more than eight players may suffer from some rendering and Ui issues.
Aside from adjusting the number of players that can join a lobby, the mod also makes visual adjustments in-game, such as altering the campfire seating arrangement to avoid player model overlapping. These visual changes are also extended to shops and relics, avoiding any visual clutter that might inhibit accessing or recognizing any elements on the screen.
How to Use Slay the Spire 2 Console Commands
If you want to experiment with some fun stuff in Slay the Spire 2, here’s how you can enable cheats and other console commands.
The Watcher
Lets the Watcher Unleash Their Wrath on New Foes
The Watcher mod by lamali ports the character “The Watcher” from Slay the Spire into Slay the Spire 2. If you missed The Watcher’s unique wrath, calm, and divinity mechanics, they return in full force, unaltered from their original iteration. All 83 watcher cards from the first game are included, as well as eight watcher-specific relics, and 10 related colorless cards and associated powers.
Perhaps most impressively, The Watcher mod also introduces a selection screen animation, hit and idle animations from the first game, and VFX and SFX for the stances. The mod is really well done, and the watcher doesn’t feel out of place at all, even with the new mechanics, events, and fights.
More Card Rewards
More Options for Building Your Deck
When playing a deckbuilding game in early access, a huge part of the experience is testing out new strategies and synergies. Given the large number of characters present in the game and the massive collection of cards available to choose from, getting a good deck to play around with and test out can feel like more of an exercise in patience than anything else.
More Card Rewards by Emo Used HM01 makes things a bit easier by changing the baseline card reward number from three to five. No other adjustments have been made to the gameplay experience through this mod; its overall utility is limited, but seeing more cards is definitely a huge boon for testing and balancing purposes alike.
