Some Steam Deck Users Can’t Even Run Monster Hunter Wilds Following the First Title Update, but There Might Be a Solution

The first free Title Update for Monster Hunter Wilds has just dropped, and Steam Deck users aren’t happy at all. Not only did the performance get worse with the Update, but some players can’t even launch the game. Thankfully, there’s always a solution for problems such as these.

Steam Deck Users Aren’t Thrilled About the MH Wilds Performance

For starters, as you probably know, MH Wilds isn’t Steam Deck Verified. However, as with any other unverified game, that doesn’t prevent players from finding a way to still play it on their handheld. Still, you can’t expect too much from unverified games.

One Steam Deck content creator, Deck Wizard, posted a video showcasing how the game ran on their device post-Update. In the video, you can see how the game runs with and without frame generation. Without frame generation, you can expect around 15 FPS. With FSR ON, you can expect around 40 FPS, with dips.

What to Do If You Can’t Run Monster Hunter Wilds Following the Update?

Quite a lot of Steam Deck users have complained that they couldn’t even launch Monster Hunter Wilds after the first Title Update. Thankfully, Deck Wizard has quite an easy solution for that!

This content creator posted a step-by-step video on YouTube. So, from Desktop Mode, go to your Home Folder. Select the three lines in the top right corner and choose Show Hidden Files. Scroll until you find .steam folder. In it, select steamapps, then the common folder.

Once there, you’ll want to go inside the MonsterHunterWilds folder. You want to replace two files: dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll. Then, you want to go here, select 1.2.2, and download it. Find the download on your desktop, or in your downloads folder, you want to right-click it and choose Open with Ark, and simply extract into the same folder.

Go inside that folder, then inside the native folder, then the bin folder, and the x64 folder. Copy the two files in the x64 folder and go back to the MonsterHunterWilds folder. There, paste the files, choose Apply to All, and Overwrite. Close the windows and launch MH Wilds with Proton Experimental. This should allow the game to launch and run.

Now that you can launch the game, you can enjoy everything added in the update. Mizutsune is fun, but we hear Zoh Shia is next level. Hopefully, the devs are working on making the game more compatible with Steam Deck. In the meantime, try to enjoy it, or try out some other games, April Humble Choice is full of cool ones.
