Rising RAM and SSD costs driven by increased AI demand may reportedly push back the launch of next-generation consoles like the next Xbox and PlayStation 6, according to claims by known insider Tom Henderson.
Henderson further highlighted that current consoles, including the Xbox Series X|S and PS5, could see price increases, while next-generation consoles may be extremely expensive.
The sharp rise in RAM and SSD prices is largely being driven by expanding AI data centre plans, with RAM prices reportedly surging by 500% and SSD prices climbing by around 100%. Furthermore, Micron—one of the leading memory manufacturers—has indicated that the shortage may continue, with CEO Sanjay Mehrotra stating it will last “beyond calendar 2026.”
In other news, recent rumours have surfaced online suggesting that both AMD and Nvidia GPUs could see a price hike starting in early 2026.
