Sony Cancels Two Live Service Game Projects, Including a New God of War Game

The last couple of years were pretty chaotic for the gaming industry. We saw some pretty good titles make it to the top, while also seeing projects and studios getting shut down and thousands of people losing their jobs. And now, two more projects have been axed as Sony cancels two live-service game projects. One of them was a live service God of War game, by Bluepoint Games.

Sony Cancels Two More Live Service Projects

Live-service games are a great way of making constant revenue, through microtransactions, paid DLCs, and more. However, due to the oversaturation of the market, only the best ones manage to come through. For example, Sony published Helldivers 2, made by Arrowhead Studios, which is one of the most popular multiplayer games of today. However, Sony also worked on Concord, a controversial piece, that was shut down barely two weeks after the release. And they spent a considerable amount of money on it. Suffice it to say that Sony can’t afford to play it risky.

In a recent article by Bloomberg, it is revealed that Sony chose to cancel two of its live service projects, one helmed by Bend Studio and the other by Bluepoint Games. The decision was made after a “recent review”. It is almost confirmed that one of those games, Bluepont’s, was a live service God of War game. However, Sony states that both of the studios are valued members of the Sony PlayStation family and that they are working closely with them on planning the next projects.

Bend Studio are the folks behind Days Gone and Bluepoint Studios are the people who made Demon’s Souls and helped on God of War Ragnarok, so both of these pretty good studios will have to start from scratch. Here’s to hoping this was a smart decision by Sony.
