Resident Evil Requiem won’t be getting a public demo, unlike other recent releases in the series.
Both Resident Evil Biohazard and Resident Evil Village received publicly available demos before release to give players a taste of what was to come. But that won’t be happening with the forthcoming Requiem, despite demos previously available at gaming shows like Gamescom.
“So, in terms of a demo play, we actually have no plan for one [for the general public] at this stage,” Requiem’s producer Masato Kumazawa told Stevivor. “None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game.”
He added: “Our development team is just doing its best to make sure that it’s creating the best quality game; to make sure that it’s a fine product.”
Eurogamer has contacted Capcom to confirm this is definitely the case.
What’s more, in the same interview, Kumazawa stated prior knowledge of mainline spin-off Resident Evil Outbreak won’t be required.
To recap, Requiem protagonist Grace Ashcroft is the daughter of Raccoon City journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, who first appeared in Outbreak. Yet when asked how important knowledge of this game would be, Kumazawa responded “not at all”.
“We make sure that players who didn’t play Outbreak, and players who have played Outbreak, will both be able to enjoy as much as they can,” said the producer.
“The reason why we chose Alyssa was just because she was just a victim of the Raccoon City incident. She had a clear aim, a clear motive, so she was very easy to introduce in this scenario.”
So don’t worry if you haven’t played the spin-off – Requiem will still stand alone.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released next year on 27th February, and will be coming to Switch 2 along with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
As such Capcom is slowly ramping up coverage until then. In another recent interview, Kumazawa teased that the game retains “some” elements of its prior life as an online multiplayer open-world game, though it’s unclear what those might be.
Additionally, Capcom stated in a recent earnings report Resident Evil Requiem won’t have the same performance woes on PC as Monster Hunter Wilds.
